OK here's the deal. I currently have a '73 Chev K10 (1/2 ton) fullsize with a D44 disc brake front and 12 bolt drum brake rear. I am installing a D60 rear and HD D44 front (3/4 ton) and would like to have the same calipers (HD D44 calipers) and discs both front and rear.
1. Is there any difference between the calipers on a Chevy six lug D44 or a Chevy 8 lug HD D44?

2. What brake booster should I use? Does anyone have suggestions? I am out of my league in this field...

3. Where do I run my brake lines for the rear disc brakes from? Can I just split the single like going to the rear as is is now, or do I have to run individual lines all the way from the master cylinder to the individual discs in the rear?

4. What master cyliner should I use and where do I hook up the rear disc brakes on the eligible master cylinder?

5. If you have any other suggestions (other than spend $600 for a store bought setup) feel free to set me straight!

Hasn't anyone tried doing this themselves? Let me know what you did?

I just plumbed my fj from scratch, different vehicle but same principle. from the master I ran 1 line to the frame to a tee to the drivers front then to the passengers front. Braided stainless from the frame to the calipers. For the rear, I ran 1 line to the frame, down the length of the passenger side frame rail, over to a crossmember over the rear axle then to a braided stainless flex hose to the axle. On the axle there is a tee which then goes to each end of the housing, from there I have a short flex line to each caliper. The more correct way would be to run hard line to both sides of the frame via a frame mounted tee then to two long braided hoses to the calipers. just like the front. That way you aleviate 1 flex line. I run ford calipers front and back. .5 ton in front and mark 5 in the rear. works fine. as for the other q's, cant help much.but if I were working on a chevy, I'd use chevy parts to do it.

Thanks for the notes. Any little bit helps... and it sounds like you've doing some cool things to your rig too!!!

Well the rear disc brakes are in the 73 Chev 1/2 ton now. I went with remanufactured and loaded brakes from Napa for a 79-86 K25 with 13" rear brakes for both front and rear. After comparing to find the caliper with the largest piston bore for a dana 44, that is what I came up with. I ended up leaving the same master cyliner and brake booster on the vehicle and found that my braking power has increase by an approximate 50% I find this particularly helpful since it was nearly impossible to stop 40 inch tire with my original 44 calipers.
