***Save Your Forest Use - Call Today !!!***
Call your Congressman now!!
Call both Senators too.
Send faxes and e-mails.
*****DEADLINE - Better Monday, but keep going until 5:00 PM Tuesday.
SEE ACTION ITEMS BELOW
INSIST THAT THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION HONOR ITS PROMISES TO
THE RURAL AREAS OF THE COUNTRY.
Don't allow the new Administration to give the Clinton Land Grabbers
their
Forest Service Legacy - at your expense.
If Sierra Nevada Forest Plan Amendments (SNFPA) (Ecosystem Plan) are
approved by Bush appointees, they'll be sending you a message that they
are
going to SELL YOU OUT.
Every user of every National Forest will pay the price if new Sierra
Nevada
Ecosystem plan is approved. It will ultimately spread like a cancer to
your forest. Kill it in the Sierras. Don't let it spread.
*****A number of organizations are helping organize a series of
grassroots
meetings over the next two weeks in various areas including the
Sacramento,
Fresno, Bakersfield, Sonora, Visalia and Chico areas. Locations and
dates
will be sent to you soon. Plan to be there if you live anywhere close.
If
you live in another state, please keep the pressure on Congress and the
Forest Service.
It is time to pick up where the Klamath left off with a prairie fire of
activism. Plan to do your part.
Your future use of and access to all national forests nationwide could
be
damaged or eliminated by a decision that will be made by a key Bush
Administration official with the Department of Agriculture in charge of
the
Forest Service. The announcement should come later this week.
It is vital that you e-mail a short letter to your Congressman, both
Senators and Mark Rey, Undersecretary of Agriculture responsible for the
Forest Service.
Even if your have already sent e-mail, it is time to send more. Faxes
too.
WHAT HAPPENS IF MR REY DECIDES TO REVIEW THE SIERRA
NEVADA PLAN?
That is good, but it only gets you part way. He could still decide to
approve it at a later date. It is critical that the grassroots
peacefully
rise up to let the new Administration know in no uncertain terms we're
tired of the compromising and back room deals. It is time for the Bush
Administration to support the people who elected President Bush.
If Mr. Rey decides the plan must be reviewed, the meetings are vital to
encourage a huge uprising of opposition to the plan. That way, the
Administration will be less likely to turn around in a few weeks and
approve the plan.
WHAT HAPPENS IF MR. RAY DECIDES TO APPROVE THE PLAN NOW?
The meetings are even more critical. There is even more reason for the
uprising. It is vital that every multiple-use and private property
advocate nationwide let your Congressman and Senators know that the
Sierra
Nevada Ecosystem Plan hurts you and MUST BE STOPPED.
THE MEETINGS ACROSS CALIFORNIA ARE CRITICAL TO REVIEWING
AND HOPEFULLY KILLING THE PLAN.
It is vital that you call, e-mail and fax the White House to let them
now
that the rural America that voted for him wants the Sierra Nevada Plan
killed. They can do it. They must want to do it.
It is up to you to make that happen.
If enough people call and fax and e-mail over the next few days the Bush
Administration will understand they must not allow this cancer to
spread.
Your calls, faxes and e-mails will tell them they were wrong to allow
Chief
Dale Boswell to approve this misguided, misleading and underhanded plan.
WHY SHOULD I OPPOSE THE SIERRA NEVADA ECOSYSTEM PLAN?
REMEMBER, IT IS REFERRED TO AS THE SIERRA NEVADA FOREST
PLAN AMENDMENTS (SNFPA).
The Forest Service is still infected with hundreds of policy makers left
over from the Clinton Administration. They support ecosystem
management.
That is a new word for getting rid of access, forestry, mining,
grazing,
and most recreation in our national forests. In other words, the
elimination of MULTIPLE USE and the use of PRIVATE PROPERTY.
This plan sets the stage and creates the environment to make it possible
for the Forest Service to get rid of multiple-use in all the national
forests in the Sierra Nevada in California and Nevada.
It threats multiple-use and private property in every national forest.
It threatens many if not most private property owners in the forests and
they largely have no idea a train is coming at them at break neck speed.
It's the precedent for ecosystem planning of all national forests. It
will
likely lead to the massive elimination of most elements of multiple use
AND
private property in every national forest throughout America.
Our allies in California trusted the Forest Service. Promises were made
at
public meetings by the agency to calm fears. The Forest Service failed
to
honor their promises. They planned to drive out landowners and all
kinds
of multiple-use advocates but kept telling everyone they would be ok.
They kept our allies from making a fuss. They deluded them into
thinking
they could trust the system. Our allies participated in the process.
They
wanted to be reasonable. They got hurt badly by playing fair with the
Forest Service.
Multiple use, recreation and private property advocates took the Bush
Administration for granted.
That cannot happen again.
All of us must act quickly create the clamor for what you want or you
will
lose. Big time.
Don't lose your rights by sitting on your hands. Don't let a decision
that
on the surface affects California and Nevada undercut your rights and
future use of all national forests.
Call your Congressman and both Senators Monday and Tuesday to urge them
to
ask the Bush Administration Agriculture Department Officials to pull
back
the Sierra Nevada Forest Plan Amendments (SNFPA) (ECOSYSTEM PLAN) for
review. The best thing is for them to overturn the plan.
ACTION ITEMS:
-----1. Call your Congressman AND BOTH SENATORS. Every Congressman
and
Senator may be reached at the Capitol Switchboard at (202) 225-3121.
One number gets
them all. Tell them this plan will affect your national
forests.
There is a temporary FREE NUMBER of (800) 648-3516. That will also get
you every Congressman. This line may get busy. If so, use the
regular
switchboard number. Do not fail to make your calls.
-----2. Call, fax and e-mail the White House. The Bush Administration
must honor its promises to rural America.
WHITE HOUSE CONTACTS:
President's Fax 202-456-2461
president@whitehouse.gov
vice.president@whitehouse.gov
Vice President Cheney's fax numbers:
202-456-7044
202-456-2685
202-456-9500
-----3. Send your own personal e-mail to Mark. Rey, using the
following
e-mail address:
mark.rey@usda.gov
You can send a FAX to: Mark Rey - (202) 720-0632

-----4. Tell any private land owner who has property in the Sierras
that
they must help fight back. For the most part, the have no idea how bad
this plan is for private land owners and communities.
-----5. Don't assume your neighbors have heard about the plan. Call
them
to make sure calls get made by them as well.
Why Should You Care If You Don't Live In California?
No matter where you live or what your land use goals are, the new Forest
Service Ecosystem Land Grab in the Sierra Nevada range threatens you.
Every user of every national forest in America has a lot to lose. You
can stop it but you must act quickly.
Ecosystem management is green speak for National Land Use Controls
Ecosystem management is the prototype for NATIONAL LAND USE CONTROLS.
Is a
test by zealots in the Forest Service to see if they can divide and
conquer you by overriding
you local forest plans, county and state boundaries.
The plan will give management direction to numerous national forests and
cover millions of acres of private land as well as the government land.
Even BLM lands will be affected.
A well kept secret is the BLM and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
internal working document that describes how a national ecosystem
process
will be put in place by presidential executive order. This plan will
then
be implemented by twenty federal agencies.
Here's how others describe ecosystem management:
-----"I promise you I can do anything you want to do by saying it is
ecosystem management. It is incredibly nebulous." - Jack Ward Thomas,
former Chief, US Forest Service.
-----"A dung pile and while carcass are ecosystems as much as a
watershed
or a lake." - Ecological Society of American, 1996
-----"The fact that no one really knows what ecosystem mangement means
has
not diminished enthusiasm for the concept." -- Dave Wilcover,
Environmental Defense Fund.
-----"The debate over ecosystem management is really about whose values
will determine resource management practices in both the public and
private
sectors." -- Ron Johnson, economist, Montana State University.
-----"The goal of ecosystem integrity places the protection of ecosystem
patterns and processes before satisfaction of human needs." - Ed
Grumbine,
The Sierra Institute.
Here's what the Sierra Nevada Ecosystem Plan (Sierra Nevada Forest Plan
Revisions) will do:
-----A. Create Federal top down land use controls over federal and
private
land for the whole Sierra Nevada Mountain Range;
-----B. Creates an Ecosystem prototype to impose in large areas of
federal
and private lands in other parts of the country;
-----C. Virtually eliminates homes, cabins, businesses and other human
activities near streams, ponds and riparian areas;
-----D. Takes control of the water supply high ground of both
California
and Nevada;
-----E. Deludes local county commissioners into supporting federal
control
to get a seat at the table and more money but gives up local control and
future economic growth;
-----F. Ski areas will lose access, use and the ability to upgrade and
improve safety.
-----G. Cuts grazing by 50% ore more;
-----H. Mining will be greatly reduced;
-----I. Timber harvests will be reduced by 50% or more;
-----J. Over 50% of the roads through national forest and BLM lands
will
be closed;
-----K. Huge amounts of private property will be down valued and
regulated;
-----L. Large amounts of recreation lands will be made off-limits;
-----M. Local rural economies will be severely damaged; and
-----N. Private citizen will face bureaucracy, uncertainty, lawsuits
and
delays in decision-making.
Call your friends.
Call your neighbors.
Alert private land owners.
Please forward this message to your entire list. Thank you
