Ok Ok I tried search and must not be able to get the wording right for this info. I know I have seen the Question before so here it is.

I need to know whick manufacturer(chevy, ford) have less shaving or grinding for the 15in. 8lug wheels to fit. I am planning on running a 15x8 with a 36in tsl preferably 3to 4in backspacing.

i'm not sure about the fords but you can make 15's fit on the chevy.

You can gring the chebby calipers enough to fit about any backspaing you want.

With the Ford I have 2.5" backspacing and 15" rims clear my dual piston calipers w/o any grinding, but any more back spacing and I don't think it'll fit at all. You'd have to grind away the actual caliper bracket to fit em' on a Ford...but hey, brakes only slow you down anyway :D:D

Chevy has a lot less grinding. I think the "stock" back spacing on a 15in. rim is 3.5 .........Take it easy...

Thanks I will get the chevy. I just picked up a 62in wms to wms 14bolt and am narrowing an 8lug 44 for now(until the $$ for a d60 is here). I just need to find a 4.10 8lug d44 front for cheap. Thanks for all the help. Sean

I went with 3" back spacing with next to no grinding needed. I basically smoothed the calipers out with a soft pad.

I have 15x10 with 4 1/8" backspace on my 8 lug 44. My dad runs the same wheels on his 60 (both chevy axles). A guy I work with runs 3.5" backspacing (I think) on a Ford 8 lug 44, they fit with grinding.

I have 15x8's 4 1/8" backspacing on a Chevy 8-lug D44. Took quite a bit of grinding, mostly to the caliper bracket.

How much do you think with a 15x8, 3.5in backspacing on the chevy?? Grinding on jus the caliper, or the bracket as well? How much material??

usually by just deburring the seam in the casting on the body of the caliper. If you are looking for a D44 with the gears you want, keep in mind that the chevy calipers, knuckles, and spindles can be swapped onto any D44 housing.

Thanks Foley I know but my chances it seems to find a 3/4ton 8 lug with 4.10s is better than the 1/2ton which came with 3.08s and so one,Except the 4speed ones which generally came either3.73 or 4.10. But for the most part the 3/4tons mostly came with 4.10s or 3.73. Thanks though for the info, Sean.

When we did the 8 lug swap on H8MONDAYS 44 with the Aggro beadlocks 15x10 with 3" backspacing we did a bunch of grinding to the caliper and mount. All GM brake stuff.

I thnk the problem is GM made a 11 3/4(?) and a 13in brake both for the 3/4 tons, the smaller of which is almost identical to the 1/2 ton D44s. The calipers are identical on both( i have been informed), its just the placement on the larger rotor, of which I have, I just converted my 1/2 to 3/4 to match the 14 bolt I have and the cheapest prices I've found are: autozone, 13" rotorand hub assembly 95$ each(special order, next day delivery if ordered before noon), and $81.85 each for the caliper brakets at the dealer (they sold them to me for dealer cost which is like $61 and change), the spindles and outer axle are identical. I am wondering if I am going to kill the integrity of my calipers, there is so much conflicting info on how much to grind!!!!!!!!(BTW, using Chevy 3/4 ton hubs as opposed to 1/2 ton stuff, at least on my j10 widens the axle wms 1" on EACH side due to the way the hub is made)

I am about to order some 15X10 MRT beadlocks. These will be going on a '76 F-250 D44 with the big dual piston calipers. Question is, I want 3" BS wheels, but I can save about $90 if I go with MRT's standard 3.5" BS wheels. I plan on grinding for the 3", but will it be WAY TOO much more grinding to go with the 3.5" BS wheels? Safety?
