Anyone out there running rear chevy disc brakes ever use longer wheel studs due to running mag wheels? I've had rear discs for over 2 years running 33 BFG's, but now that I'm going to 16/35 Boggers I'm a little leary. With the chevy rotors and the old classic slotted mags, I don't seem to have enough thread.

Any input and/or sources for parts would be greatly appreciated. Gonna try the local 4x4 shop today.

If you dont care to keep them metric, you can just go down to autozone and have them match it up to a longer one.

Yeah, I'd like to stay metric due to the fact that I have to use the old mag lugs (major pain in the @$$) and if they got mixed with the fronts it'd be a pain. If I can't find metric, I'll just swap all 4 out (gotta pull the front end apart to do the locker anyways).

I'm not sure if the front and rear are the same but I had to get longer studs when I used 1/4" spacers to clear the tie rod ends. I still have the box they came in. It has the name DORMAN on it, part # 610-265. 12M-1.5x44.8MM. They were about 3/8" longer than stock. HTH

This may or may not help, but, there are two
different rotor flange thicknesses for the
Chevy 1/2 tons. Autozone carries the thinner
flanged ones. Sorry, I don't have the part #
handy. If you swap rotors now, your stock studs may work fine. BTDT! <IMG SRC="smilies/beer.gif" border="0">

Thanks for the box info - 3/8" would be bout right with the current lugs. Do you remember who you picked the studs up from?

Had the rotors for over 2 years with minimal wear, too late to swap out ($$$ considerations).

I got them from a local parts store called ALL FORIEGN AUTO PARTS. About $1.25 each. I'd check with your local parts places and see if they either carry that brand or can cross referance the number. Another thing you might try is the studs from a front disk mini truck. When I did the conversion on my cruiser I noticed that the studs are really long because they go through the rotor and the hub which has a sort of built in spacer. if the fat knurled part is the same diameter then you could just trim them to whatever length you need. Just a thought, hth.

Sorry, I should have said that the mini was an 81 4x4. I think different years had different rotor and hub types.

When I put disc on the back of my FJ40 I used Hilux front wheel studs they are really long plus I have a wheel spacer and these studs where long enough hope this helps.

you could give mr. metric in san jose a call. they've had every metric fastener i've ever needed.
