It's a Cannondale F500. Been ridden.... maybe 20 hours total. Bought it brand new.

Looks like a 96 or 97. Also looks like it has a Shimano LX Derailleur?

You are probably thinking $500, but realisticly, you'd be lucky to pull $150.

Only the very latest used Cannondales go for over $500.

The rear derailler is most definitely STX (I'm right...aren't I?), which is below LX. I'd shoot for $200; maybe better luck parting it out as I'd imagine that frame and headshock would go for at least that much...the rest of it is lower-level components that certainly will not draw the buyer.

And BTW, the rest of it should be Alivio components :p

[edit: I am soooooo right, it's sickening ]

$200 is pretty generous. I see a 3yo F400 on eBay for $350, and an F500 same year as mine with no pic, and no bids, for $250 reserve not met. I'd be happy with $200. I think I'll set the reserve at $150 and run it in the local paper too.

What you did tell me though is that I wouldn't part it out, when I sold one piece for $75 and then was stuck with the rest for the junk pile.

Since I already saw what this bike wouldn't sell for, I needed to know what it might sell for. Thanks you guys.

The F400 and F500 were spec'd with the same components (Alivio with Gripshift and the STX rear derailleur), but the F500's had the Headshock. (the F400's used a standard fork, typically 1" diameter)

Rusted, do with it what you wish. The frame + headshock is fairly desirable. If you put the entire bike on E-Bay with an opening bid of $200 and no reserve, it should sell (and yes, the pics matter! not too many people know how the bike was equipped based on the model number alone). Do yourself a favor and even hype the E-Bay ad for "buy the bike for the frame alone...great for single-speed or upgrade to newer components."

BTW, thanks! I just bought a new bike and (if it were a 17" frame) I would've PayPal'd you $200 right now!

It's a 19?

Thank you very much for that great info. AFAIK, which isn't much obviously, the frame is now only desireable for downhillers?

19" frame? Measured from either the center of the bottom bracket (the axle the crank rotates on) to the center of the top tube...or center of bottom braket to top of top tube.

Downhilling? No. Not enought travel in the fork and no rear suspension. It's desirable as a light cross-country frameset and general city/training/single-speed frameset. The headshock is a stout design that is fairly clean in appearance, appealing to the luddite-ish cyclists who otherwise would not buy a bulky suspension fork for their MTB.

Well, they said it was a '19' when I bought it. It's too big for me really, and I'm 5'10".

I see this (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3621740883&category=22679) on eBay, and it's a much smaller frame. Also, my shock is set with an allen wrench. This person has no bids either, but they're doing what you said.

If I went for say $150 on the frame and shock, what am I going to do with the rest of the, well, crap?

At one time, you said you'd haul my junk down from MI, you had just gotten your diesel tow rig. Did you sell it?

That rear derailleur is an STX RC :flipoff2:

That along with the cheap-o Alivio crankset(non-repacable chainrings), Alivio brakes (not even v-brakes), grip-shit shifters... you'll do well if you get $100. Not trying to be mean, it's just a bit out dated.

It's still a Cannondale and it's black... someone's bound to buy it on those two reasons alone. :D

Rusted,

watch this ad (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3622511578&category=27947) or this ad (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3621575343&category=27947); what this bike sells for should give you an idea what you may get off E-Bay. Again, the headshock is more desirable than what these two bikes are equipped with!
Or sell it locally for $50 more.

I don't even know how this (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3620182538&category=27947) happened, but don't settle for less than $200!!!

Next item on the antiques road show, a 1988 SM600, 18".
I figured it's not worth too much since it is a hard tail. On the other hand it is a pretty rare frame, 24" rear tire, 26" front.

I would love to get an inexpensive mtn bike for just casual riding around on. If the Cannondale doesn't sell on Ebay let me know..maybe we can work something out

Holy crap. I just read this after last night. What a bunch of elitist mofos! I simply asked about the value of a bike, and I got told my 'dreams' were being smashed. :shaking:

Ya'll are plain vicious, vicious.... :flipoff2:

Joe, I'll let you know what I plan to do with it... maybe I'll just keep it for an antique.

With prices this low, I guess I'll just keep hanging on to my Nishiki Custom Sport that I got in college...you know, back in the days before there really were any 'mountain bikes' or 'road bikes'; when we called them 10-speeds. :flipoff2: :D

I promised her id build her a new one..
