Have any of you with these tires had them siped? I am not sure if that is the right spelling...
If so What did it do for you? Did it make the Tire last longer? OR would you say it is a Waste of Money?

siping = razor blade cuts in teh inner treads, and yes it does work for traction and wear adn tear on teh tire, its a do it your self mod that doesnt cost much, but get teh tire warm, makes it easier. jiMMy

If you drive on them every day I might just leave them alone but if your not gonna daily drive it then you could sipe them for better traction on the rocks, It all up to you I would say dont do it beacause swampers are soft and they might chunk.:usa: :skull:

Last time I checked Jimmy, sipe didn't mean grooving....

As far as on road performance I think the theory is that the siping helps with heat dissapation therefore making them wear more slowly. The sipes will also help the tire conform better in the rocks and assists traction in the snow.

you are still retarded. What he is saying is that the rubber is soft, and if you sipe them, the little pieces left on the lug after the siping is done, may break off. Tard!

Oh by the way Angle.......Save your money, or use the Razor Blade techinque. I doubt you will notice a difference.

I didnt sip mine but I did groove them with a MRT grooving tool. Worked great and only took about 45 min. to do all 4. I noticed a little better traction on the rocks...:skull:

When I bought my set of 5 used (33x12.5), there were 2 that were nearly new and sipped, and the other three were well used compared to those, but still plenty of tread. I bet I've put 10K or better on these this year. From Misouri to Maob and back to. Plus daily driving duties

Anyway, the fronts (not sipped) have about 1/4" of thread on them and the rears (sipped) have close to 3/4" of an inch I would guess. I can measure tonight to verify. They haven't chunked or anything. They are wearing fantastic for what they are! They were done with a hand tool of some sort, since the sipes are uneven and what not, but it does make a differance. I think it helps with traction a bunch to. These things stuck to the rocks in Moab great! But it was my first time in the rocks, so I was imoressed by a lot of theings even my IFS :flipoff2:

After my SAS I'm going with 36 or 38x12.5's and I will sipe them or get them sipped even though these won't be the daily driver tires. Good Luck

siping works good on road and off road. on road its great for swampers in the rain as it adds more biting edges. Like it was said it also helps heat dissipation and slows wearing.

In the rocks it really helps as well. Especially if they are wet!

I run siped TSLs. I had them sipe everything EXCEPT the outer lugs. Much better on & off road - and it does rain up here!

And other posters are correct: siping does improve tire life on road.

Just do it & Get it!

First off- I don't run my SX's on a DD. But I did seriously groove them (they look a lot like jiMMy's). It made a big difference when flexing over rocks. Siping helps in the rain and will improve tread life some.

Go for it:skull:

I've run radial Swampers with the center lugs siped and my current SX's with the center lugs siped. IMO, it's one of the best methods for increased traction. On road, the edges greatly increase your wet road handling and snow-ice traction. Also, because of the sipes, heat supposedly dissapates better, and increases tire life.

Off road, the increased traction is awesome...I hand siped mine with a groover, cutting with the u-shaped blade upside-down. 4-6 sipes per center block. All those extra edges help in most every offroad situation...you'd be surprised at how much those slits open up after a couple trips offroad.

Don't do the outer lugs tho...increased chance of tire chunking. Center lugs only, and I encourage doing it by hand rather than taking to a shop...shops can't control the frequency of the sipes as well and they may sipe too close to the parallel edges of the lugs...

Hey,
I siped my bias Swampers...it works great off-road! The lugs are like little squeeges and wipe the dirt off the rocks as they grip!

That's because the tires were new from them. If you don't by the tires from them, they will charge you more:(

Hey,
I did it with a utility knife. At first, it doesn't look like much. But once you wheel a few times, the sipes open right up...

You should not pay more than 11.00 a tire and it works great like 1000s of little fingers grabbing stuff but only sipe the inner lugs siping the outerswill tear your lugs off.

I had my 8.25R16 (9X34") Michelin XZLs on our '84 BJ60 diesel Land Cruiser wagon siped, 5/32" deep. Great on ice, all of a sudden.

I wish I had mine done. Now I have to borrow a hot knife and do it myself. Les Schwab quoted me $8ea at new and $12 ea after they hit the road even once. Its worth it for sure Id do it even just for the added ice and snow traction.

i sipe every tire I own. Nothing but good things from siping. I even prefer siping to studs. Mine were done by a machine. $8 ea. The hard part is finding someone that knows how to work the damn thing correctly.
