The Latest Results From America's Pre-eminent Lawyer Enrichment Program (class-action lawsuits): (1) In a $350 million settlement between AT&T and customers overcharged on telephone leases, lawyers get $84 million, and customers get back $15 to $20 each (December). (2) In a recent settlement between Sears and customers with improperly done wheel balancing, lawyers get $2.45 million, and customers get $2.50 a tire. (3) In a $3.7 million settlement between televangelist Jim Bakker's Praise the Lord Ministries and 165,000 defrauded Christians, lawyers get $2.5 million, and each victim gets $6.54 (July). What about the car buyback program they had in Cali. a while back. Instead of cheaning up the emisions at the factory/powerplant/etc. they were allowed to buy and destroy a certian number of pre '73 cars.

Not just pre 73's and they are still doing it. Industrial manufacturers get pollution credits for every car they can crush and these crdits can be used or bought and sold. WTF

Some good news on this front....

Former Texas Attorney General Dan Morales tried to steer some of the millions in fees from the tobacco settlement in Texas to one of his lawyer buds and got busted on it. He finally plead guilty to Federal mail and tax fraud and will serve 4 years in jail. Instead of running for Gov or US Senate he's just going to be worrying about becoming Billy Bobs biotch :D Story here (http://www.news-journal.com/news/newsfd/auto/feed/news/2003/07/20/1058674944.15255.5956.1612.html)
