Ok, I used the search, and came up with the following question. :flipoff2:

I've got a D44 out of a 74 Cherokee. It has flat top knuckles.

I want to convert it to 5x5.5" So, do I just use ford hubs, rotors, bearings and calipers or what?

Seems that the spindle is fine? Correct?

no, you need a 76 and older chevy spindle, ford hub, rotor, and either chevy backing plates and calipers or the jeep backing plates and calipers, I believe these are the same.

I think the spindles will work. Go to an auto parts store and see if ford wheel hub bearings will fit the cherokee spindle. That will answer your question for sure.

the spindles are the same as the 77 and newer chevy spindles, not the same as the ford, you can put a chevy hub on yours, not a ford, you have to have the 76 and older chevy spindle to use the ford hub.

Um....the 74-76 FSJ spindles are the same spindles as 73-early 77 GM (these are the "small bearing" spindles).

All you will need is the Ford (76-92 1/2 ton) hub/rotor assemblies.

The caliper brackets and calipers should work fine.

Charly is correct, if those are small bearing spindles all you need is the 5 lug bearing hub and rotor. Locking hub, bearings, calipers, and caliper mounts are all the same

Umm, no. The '76 Cherokee spindles are the same as '76 and older Chevy, not '77 and newer. They both are the smaller diameter for the inner bearing and will accept the Ford hubs.

Ok,

So, If I get a hub and rotor from a 76-92 1/2 Ford 1/2 ton, I'm good to go, correct?

What about a manual hub? (Warn, Superwinch, etc) Just get it for the same application?

You can get a manual hub for any of the Dana 44 applications except Scouts or Dodges with the wierd sealed hub. Ford, Chevy, and Jeep 44 lockouts are all interchangable.

cmegoup,

Cool, I thought that was the case, but I wasn't sure. It's coming out of a Cherokee with a quadracrap, so there are no "hubs". So I'll have to get hubs for it anyway.

Does this mean I can get a waggy front and use the 6 lugs and just bolt on some manual hubs. Is it that easy.

It's that easy to convert it to have hubs. You still have to deal with steering and mounting it to the springs. One thing to do when adding lockouts is keep the old drive flange slugs and caps. They come in very handy if you blow a lockout on the trail. They also take up very little space in the spare parts compartment for trail repairs.

Thanks for the info. I will do that and use adapters to change my 8.8 rear to 6x5.5 pattern so I can use stock axle shafts for the rear.

When wondering about this kinda stuff, an invaluable source of info is the "interchange" section at www.timkeninfo.com .

Look up the bearing for the 2 parts in question, and walla, you have the info.
