I have 35x12.50 General grabber MTs. I might head up to the Rubicon real soon but i know these tire sidewalls arent real thick. Anybody run these bad boys off-road on rocks?

I just ran it on 35" BFG KM's, if those POS tires can make it, anything can, 4 sidewalls, countless rolls off the bead in the last year.

My buddy ran at set of 31" Grabbers down to the cords in the tire, things wear like iron.

They will do, just have to watch where and what you drive on, over and against, any tire will do it. I ran several times with my 31 hercules tires and did not cut or slice em and they are a weak sided tire also. I have even seen general grabbers (street tire) on it so you can do it, just be careful.

Sounds like you're taking airing down a bit too far :flipoff2: (or you just are too rough on them, which ain't the tire's fault)
I ran BFGs for years and only lost one sidewall to a rock that probably would've taken out any tire (sharp point snagged the inside). I run 10-15 PSI depending on trail conditions.

Grabbers are only a two-ply sidewall but it should hold fine if you're careful.

My first time on the Rubicon the guy that led me in drove a STOCK 84 Yota, sitting on about 31" street tires. He just finessed it through without a problem. I learned a lot of respect for Yotas that day.

Your 35"s will do just fine.

I ran the 33" tires and lost one to sidewall damage. I would suggest watching the sidewalls and ofcourse running low pressure in the tires.
I also had problems with the bfg series slidding off my 33 12 15 losing bead on 10" rims.. after changing to a 8" I never had problems.. also, I was more careful with air pressure.

Doesn't make a difference huh? You think they would hold up on my suburban as well as they would on a sami?

Nailed too many sidewalls to remember on a set of 35 BFG's, wouldn't run them again, well maybe the Krawler :D :D

Generals are pretty decent tires. I've run several rocky, western sierra trails in my EB with that exact tire and just about wore the lettering off the sidewalls without a failure:eek: Bottom line is though, you can run just about any tire with a little driver finesse. They do hold up better than any BFG I've ever owned though:eek: Oh, and it wouldn't be a bad idea to bring a plug kit and some sort of on board air. You CAN plug sidewalls. Don't ask!

I guess it would depend how that sami was built...:flipoff2:

I've had a couple sets in the past, They did about 20 trips on the Rubicon with only 1 sidewall puncture.

In short.....NO, there is now way in hell those tires can make the Rubicon! PERIOD, so don't even try!

Is this suppose to be the Newbie question or Newbie answer area :flipoff2:

I'd say very limited 31" could make it through

better chance of making it with 33"

and of course 35" have an even better chance

More lines are available which lets you finisse more and hammer less.

I would bring two spares if you have them available. Also, you never said what you set up is do you have a crawler box, lockers, lower gears in the axle. There are many things that will greatly increase your odds.

Most of all just dont go alone and you will be fine.

That was at 10 lbs, I was scared to go any lower.....remember it was a 12.5 tire on a 12 inch rim ;) Try reseating that on the trail with starter fluid
