I got a mud truck (k5)so I went strait to discs :flipoff2:
If it matters its on a 95 ranger(my pops truck). I just adjusted the sheos on the ranger by turning that adjusting thing with a flat head until it showed resistance. Is that correct or did I overtighten it and possibly warp the drum or some shiat? Are you suppose to set the parking brake halfway or something or adjust with parking brake off?

the way ive always done it is to NOT have the e brake on but turn that wheel out so that when you put the drum on and spin it, it has a lil resistence from the brakes

Hmm, I was to lazy jack the wheel up. Ohwell the pedal atleast feels real good and the ebrake holds again.

I'm confused.. do you have disc? sounds like you tightened the right piece. I usually set the p brake 1/4 and do a 55 mph brake check afterward (if your rear brakes lock and your front do not, your rear brakes are too tight). adjust your brakes until you have even braking..

I have discs on my k5. But my Pops makes me do all his work on his ford ranger in exchange for filling his garage with gas sucking beasts and good tools  .

His ranger is just the factory 11" drums.

sounds like you did it right but just drive it around and if you smell burnt brakes then you messed up some how

you did it about right. I turn em till there is a little resistance without the wheel on, then I turn em back slightly. If you only have slight resistance you won't warp the drums or destroy the shoes. Also drive it around for 5 or ten miles and feel the center of the wheel if it is noticably hot they are too tight.

listen if you want to do it right...... put your ebrake on 3-5 clicks or so. adjust your drums till they are hard to turn with the axle off the ground, tires off, and truck in netural so the oppsite drum does not effect the one yer messin with. release the e brake and check that the drums are not DRAGGING. if they are, its too tight, so back em off a bit.after adjusting put it all back together. ebrake should be good, and brakes should not stink. if the ebrake is not functioning correctly ( not high enough on the pedal) adjust the ebrake cable. its sumthin that shouldnt be used to "cheat" to adjust the brakes. dont just tighten up the ebrake cable untill the brakes are good. thats just using the ebrake linkage with out addressing the problem. when it comes to brakes, DO NOT BOOTY FAB OR NEGRO RIG....take it from a guy who wrenches for a living. ~Halo
