I currently have a wrangler D30 in the front. I'm putting a ford 9" in the rear and since i'm narrowing it, i'm going to get new axles from moser or superior or whomever. I'm getting the new axle bolt pattern to match the front.
If I switch to a D44 in the front later, will the bolt pattern be the same as the wrangler? 5 lug of course. I'm getting the custom axles so they'll match now, but i would still like them to match later.
thanks

Your Wrangler pattern is 5 on 4.5". Most 5 bolt circles are 5.5". I don't think you can get a 44 front with your pattern, but I may be wrong. I would wait until I could get a Waggy 44 front & make the rear 6 lug to match.

Seems like alot of work to make that Ford 9 work.
New axles and narrow the housing... Why not slap a ford 8.8 under it and be done. You didn't say what this is going in but I'll guess its a YJ?
ater, when you have enough $$$ to redo the front axle, and buy new wheels with 5 on 5.5 pattern you can either change the lug pattern on the 8.8 or put in a ford 9.
Since you don't say where this rig is heading its hard to say but IMO putting 5 on 4.5 on a ford 9 is a waste of time and money.

Exactly what everyone else has said is correct...but if you don't already have your 9" email me I am going to be selling my 9" and my front 44 which are both 6 lug so you can get rid of that crappy 4.5" bolt pattern and go to 6 lug...also they will bolt right in for a YJ SUA and the rear is already setup for SOA too but the front isn't yet:D

I have an s-10 that I converted. I got the 9" because of the price,$150 w/disc brakes. and I got the third member, already set up with the 4.11's i needed for $200. And the front axle i got for $100 w/4.10's. Yeah I guess all said and done I'm getting the same cost as a set of 44's but oh well.So unless you're selling the front 9" and rear 44 for cheap, i'll be sticking to the 9".
How much would'a 8.8 cost? and the width? Is a 8.8 a dropout 3rd member or rear covered gears?
I guess I"m kinda partial to the 9" because of my hotrod past.
