i went mudding and when i glanced at my gas gage it has the arrow all the way past the full sighn..( didnt get in deep water so that couldnt have been it) i disconnected the gas gage sensor and grounded and used a power indicater.. no power was going to the gage sensor, there is 3 wires.. tryed all three. i followed the wires to make sure i just didnt rip them or somthing.. but they looked ok before they met up with other wires and no telling where they go from there lol. Im just a poor 17 year old with no job, parents wont pay to get it fixed.. would it be hard to pop open the dash and look at the gage there? or where else would the problem be?
what to do what to do...
thankz

Take apart the dash and clean the copper wires behind the gauge it might help, It easy to take apart a Jeep dash just dive in you wont mess it up any worse right?:smokin:

Usually when the gauge goes all the way past the full mark, it means the sending unit has lost ground. Try regrounding the sending unit right to the frame.
Carry a couple of gerry can on the back it is easier than messing with the gas guage all the time.:smokin: :nuke: :skull:

This is for CJ's, but I imagine YJ's are similar:

Good brain food here. It covers all the other gauges as well as the gas. Also gives you voltage and ohm specs.

Its your duty as a jeep owner to take your dashboard off and screw up your wiring. Really. Actually it is not that bad, and there is enough wire to pull the whole dash off without disconnecting anything.
GOOD LUCK:vader2:

If it goes all the way to empty, its a bad ground. If it goes all the way to full, its the sending unit. Look at getting a new sending unit. And CHECK ALL THOSE GROUNDS!! Without fail, every single wiring nightmare I ever worked on ended up being a stupid fawking Ground. you'd think i'd learn...
Learn from my mistakes, somebody should.....
