ok...so i am looking for a 3/4 ton tow rig. will be towing a 14' tandem axle trailer with my jeep wrangler on it.
i am having one bitch of a time finding any 2WD's which i would rather have because of the less shit to break and i already have a 4WD
BUT..there are many more 3/4 4WD's out there for sale here in AZ.
question:
will the 4WD pull just as well? don't see why not!
we are talking a dodge
3/4
5.9 V8 or the V10
Don't think the pulling prowess will be affected noticeably at all. Only downside is the extra cost of purchase/maintenance, though you'll get some of that back when you sell.

Buy the 4wd. It will pull just as well. Also If you ever "need 4wd" It you will be glad you had It. The fuel milage will suck either way.

You can look at it this way...If your rig gets stuck you would have a recover vehicle wouldn"t you:D
I just got a '99 F250, and went with the 4WD. I use the low range ( 2wd, hubs unlocked) every time I back my trailer into the garage.

If your gonna go the 4x4 route and your worried about breaking stuff, you may want to stick to the Fords for the late-models. I am not sure about the very recent ones, but in 02 at least, Ford was the only 4x4 you could get that still has the straight axle up front. Dudge and Chevy I believe only offered IFS.

ok. crack kills. Only the Dodge 1/2 tons are IFS, 02-03 4wd models. ALL Dodge 3/4 and 1 ton 4x4's are solid front axle. The only thing that changed is that Dodge went with AAM for it's axles on the 03's ( from Dana's on previous years). 2wd's are generally rated to tow slightly more. Mileage will be slightly better on the 2wd, but with a v10 that's most likely not an issue for you:D . If you tow more than just a couple of times a year, go with the v10 over the v8. like was said 2wd's are cheaper to buy, but if you sell your vehicle you can get some or most of your money back on a 4wd.

In Ohio there are the few Dodge IFS 1-ton 4x4's.

A 2wd usually sits lower and is more stable when towing, lower step-in height, etc.
I really like how my IFS 2wd tonnner tows.. but I'm converting it to 4x4 for easier parts availability, and not getting stuck when towing in the winter..

come on guys, a 2wd would tow better, Why you ask?? Less wait, no front axle, or T-case, less weight= more go. , but Id get 4wd just in case you get stuck, than ever one would make fun of you if you got stuck.
