: Help ASAP - trailer brake/controler issue?

I am dying here. Leaving at 7am for a trail ride, would love to have my brakes back :(

Plug in the trailer harness, the Voyager controller does NOT light up showing good connection, and the brakes automatically stay locked up.

It did this before, when the white ground in the trailer plug came loose. We checked the plg on the trailer - cut, stripped, and re-inserted every wire one at a time for a good contact.

Brake lites work fine though

Truck is '00 F250 with Tekonsha Voyager controller and factory round 7 flat pole receptor
then a 7-5 round adapter
Trailer plog is the 5 wire

Is there supposed to be a ground on the trailer? I don't see one ANYWHERE

Anyone who can help me tonight - it would be great... If not too late, I can go back outside and check or re-wire and maybe get it working before the morning...

Dave ther should be a ground there. Take a continuity test between the rig ground(frame) and the trailer frame. If you have no reading hook up a ground wire between those two points and see if it works. You can use a test lead with clips on for this if you have one. If you do get a reading you have other problems. Also check your emergency disconnect switch. Just move it in and out a few times, maybe spray it.

Will check continuity in the morning - thanks.

Emergency disconnect switch? huh?

I went out in the rain and mapped out every wire... Here is a pic someone else posted of how things are "supposed to be", with my actual setup (As it sits now) to the side:

Trying to work through this....

From the truck, to adapter in, to adapter out, to trailer:

Right Turn: brown > green > green > green (works properly)
Left Turn: red > yellow > yellow > yellow (works properly)
Running Lights: green > brown > brown > brown (work properly)
Back-Up Lights: yellow > N/A

These all seem to be working properly - so no need to mess with them...

The others:

Elec brake: blue > blue > blue > empty
Ground: white > white > white > black
12v: black > black > black > white

I only have 5 wires on the trailer - the 3 for the lights, and a black and a white that go to the brakes. Should there be a ground wire from the plug to a screw on the frame? Is that my problem? If so - why are the lights working with no ground?

Also, it the diagram I made would explain why the brakes are locking up when I plug everything up - they seem to be getting 12v from the charge lead.

So that leaves me with these questions:

-A black and a white wire go to the brakes - which is +/-?
-Should I add a separate ground, or is the ground for the brakes serving as ground?

This gets awful cofusing :p

The adapter has the ability to swap the blue and black internally coming out to the trailer. I am thinking that should take care of my problems.

It would bring the blue (brakes) from the truck to the white wire on the trailer - is this correct?
The black (charge 12v) from the truck would go to an empty spot on the trailer plug - fine since it is not needed.

Does this sound right? it is 11:30 and raining, might as well head back outside and see what happens :p

Well, swapping the black and blue wires in the adapter was the trick. Which is dumb, because just a month ago I had to swap the blue and black wires in there because it would not work the OTHER way

Obviously - elves are rewiring my s**t in the middle of the night :shaking: :( :p

Sorry I wasn't around Dave... I read your first post, remembered you talking about having the adapter for the 6 way on the trailer, and knew that was exactly your problem.

I had the same problem before and it was just poor contact (volts but NO amps). I had tested the trucks plug and the trailers elec.sys. all were good. I even used a spare battery to test the trailers wiring.
The repair was to spread the prong connector to make a tighter fit. Also, I added a seperate grounding wire from the trailer with a clip to attach to the trucks frame.

Only one other time was when some kids took the emergency brake 'safety brake-away' wire. (pull out type) I had to cut the harness wire:mad:

Why cut the wire when all you had to do was unplug the battery?
