: Wiring diagrams needed

Hi. I'm new to the site, but figured this is to place to go for help.

I'm getting ready to swap a '95 4.0 ho and AW4 out of a Cherokee into my '88 Wrangler. I thought I'd check with you guys before I drop the cash for the FSM's. If anybody has these diagrams and are willing to share, I'd be very grateful. I could also use any other advice and tech anyone would like to give...and yes I have done a search and read many of the existing posts, but I haven't seen much on my exact combination of years.

I have the complete donor vehicle...sort of. The '95 Cherokee was the victim of an interior fire...almost totally gutted. Everything under the hood is still there and in good shape. I have aquired a TCU out of another Cherokee with the connector, so I've got that covered. Is there anything else I'm going to need from inside the vehicle?

Some questions I have at this point are:

1. Of course my first concern is the wiring. Anybody out there do this sort of swap and document it well?

2. Is the '95 still the ODB I computer? From what I've read so far, I take it that it is.

3. I was going to use the T-case from the cherokee. How can I do this and still use my stock speedo? Hesco told me their adaptor is only for the older style T-case that had a cable driven speedo attached to them. I'd use the old T-case from my Wrangler, but there is input shaft conflicts, I believe(original tranny is the lovely puegot piece-o-crap).

I'm sure that I will think of more questions as things progress. Right now I'm still stripping the Cherokee...so I'm not very far into the project.

Thanks in advance.:jeep:

Hesco's full of it. You can get the sensor from the dealer for around $50. Tell them you need the speed sensor for a Mopar MPI conversion for a CJ 4.2 engine. Sorry, but i don't have the part number any more. The most you will have to do is get a new speedo cable with the correct end. I will able to dig up a thread adaptor. BTW, I 've done this swap with a '91 XJ motor to an '88. Spend the $100 for the FSM, it will be your best purchase you will make for your swap.

All of the wiring diagrams you need are here:

Swapping the power distribution center from the Cherokee makes wiring a lot easier. I didn't have one from the donor in my swap, so I had to figure out the wiring for the 2 relays (ASD and fuel pump). If you have specific questions about the wiring, you can email me and I'll try to help.

Not sure about your speedo issue. Does your YJ have a cable-driven or wire-driven (analog) speedometer now?

I do have the power distribution center, and I am transplanting that to the Wrangler. I thought it would be easier than wiring in the relays.

Mellocj and DE Jeeper, I may getting in touch with you guys in the future when I actually get to the wiring. I'll wait til I have the specifics then contact you.

I think I have the answer for my speedo problems...it was in front of me the whole time. I have both T-cases, complete. I should be able to mix and match parts as I need. I'm going to have one or the other of them apart to install a SYE anyway. I think I should be able to resolve any problems along the way.

Thanks for the help so far guys.

For the speed sensor, go to a yard and get one out of a "91 YJ or a '93 grand cherokee. It will have both mechanical and electronic sending. Go to Jeep and it's $122, wreckers, who knows?
The only reason you'll need it is for smog in your state. (You went from carb. to fuel injection). If you don't have smog checks every two years, don't bother.
Both t-cases should be NP231's, the '88 has the Peugeot BH/10, which is the only one that has a 21 spline imput gear, everything else has a 23 spline. The auto trans one should fit right on, there are three different lengths of the imput gear. Make sure the tail shaft of the trans goes far enough into the gear. Anything else, here to help, Terry

I will have to keep an eye out for said speed sensor. I'll probably have better luck finding it in a Grand rather than a YJ...YJ's aren't very common in the yards around here.

Thanks again.

Also,
Grab 2 sets of axel safts for your Dana 30 out of an XJ (cherokee), should be cheap and will fit your front axel. Depending on how much your vehicle is built, You'll break them eventually, We pay about $50 out here with hubs, Terry
