: would you buy it? 01 3/4 HO Cummins with 174K
GloNDark 08-25-2003, 10:29 AM It's a beautiful truck and doesn't look, feel or sound like it has that many miles on it. dark green sport with leather interior. No dents, no tears in the interior, no drivetrain noise, stops nice, accelerates nice.
What do you think?? I could pick it up for about 15k out the door.
The Jerk 08-25-2003, 10:40 AM the miles kill the deal for me, its only 2 years old, what was it used for? i know desils can go longer, but still, jiMMy

The dealer said that guy lived here and worked during the week in the bay area. I confirmed that, as I know the original owner. It was serviced regularly at the dodge dealer. hhmmmm
locrwln 08-25-2003, 11:15 AM As long as the motor has gotten it's services the motor is the last thing you need to worry about. As long as it drives good and the tranny is tight I would go for it. I just realized you said HO so it should have the 6spd, right? Again the powertrains are extremely tough.

Correct!! I am gonna go drive it again today after work, and hopefully have my buddy who is a Dodge diesel freak come with me, to take a look at it.
Oxjockey 08-25-2003, 11:44 AM How much coin? I would consider it.

fj40charles 08-25-2003, 12:14 PM Auto or manual? Mileage is not a concern for a Cummins. The engine is probably not even broken in yet.
gunracer1 08-25-2003, 12:28 PM mine has 219k on it and going strong.
GloNDark 08-25-2003, 12:45 PM I am liking what I am hearing so far.
I am not concerned so much with the motor as with the rest of the truck. I know my Vortec is kicking ass still but other things on the truck after 85k after going downhill. :D:D
OverThrottle 08-25-2003, 03:45 PM I think I would go over it real good first. Motor is probably fine, but pay close to the rest of the truck. Check the brakes, steering linkage, etc. You should also check the tires. I am sure they have been replaced at least once, but if they are fairly worn again you might be able to use that to leverage the price down some.
AggieLR 08-25-2003, 04:17 PM if its 4x4, check the front hub assymbly and the trac bar, those are some things that go out and aren't cheap to replace
Desert Jeepin 08-25-2003, 04:19 PM I have an 01 2500 Cummins, Not HO but WAY better with Edge Comp and Exhaust. Rhino Lined, Quad Cab, Killer Stereo, LS Diff, (4x2), Custom Rims, BFG A/Ts, Less than 60K Miles. I'll let it go for about $24000 and I'll deliver.

I would try to get them down on the price a little, but having just bought an '02 in basically the same trim, but with 33K miles, I would say they are a great truck. He must have been driving his ass off, though!
Chewbacca 08-26-2003, 01:20 PM I had a 97 Cummins 12 valve, 150k on it in 2 years (landscaping and property maintenance) pullin a trailer the whole damn time almost and the motor was just getting broken in.
Miles don't mean jack to me anymore. My 1/2 ton silverado with 80k rides and runs better than my friend's 1/2 ton silverado with 20k on it...
Drive it, have someone follow you while you drive it and look for blueish smoke when you pin it and spool up the turbo...if normal dark smoke puffs out it's good to go IMOP
6 spd rocks
tubehead 08-26-2003, 02:53 PM That truck is not hurt. Go for it if the chassis checks out ok.
GRMhick 08-28-2003, 01:18 PM if I had the money, i would probabally jump all over it. From experience with my ram, I have noticed if it is maintained properly, no problems. But the main killer of alot of my parts are age.
Michael Lopas 08-29-2003, 11:05 AM I do the same commute as the guy that owned th etruck. 20K miles on my 03 in 4 months going from Carson City to the Bay each week to work. Mostly full freeway, but some stop and go. Musch less stop and go than driving around town.
GO for it!!
If the truck has been serviced regularly and has not been BTS I would not worry about the mileage. These engine can go 300000 miles. If it makes you feel better take it to rep. mechanic to have a look. You mite also consider an extended warranty if the price is right.
