When installing FJ55 springs in the back of a FJ40 do the rear hangers need to be moved back? It looks like after getting the weight onto the spring the shackel will be pretty flat with the hanger in the stock location.
Thanks

Actually, there are two options, both of which require removing the hangers first. There are 2 rivets to grind off and pound out and they are probably welded on the sites....careful removing the welds since you need to reuse the hangers. Once off....
1) Simply reverse their direction and use graded bolts to reattach. However, you may find your shackle angle a bit too verticle....this will add ~3"...
2) essentially pivot the shackle on the bolt hole closest to the axle. This will require you to drill a new forward hole for the shackle to mount to. This will add ~1/5"....and gave me a nice ~45 degree shackle angle on my setup.
Check my website under Other Custom Mods and there's some pics and info there.

I tried to keep mine in place and use a super long shackle, but the shackle rested on the frame.
Next, I tried to do the "flip" using the same holes, but the shackle was almost 90*
Finally, I split the difference and my shackle (2" over stock) is PERFECT. I get tons of droop and a nice smooth ride.
