okkkk here is a quiz for you guys.

73 grand waggy... 360, turbo 400 tranny, offsett like a bitch dana 44, WHAT TCASE? and how sturdy to use if the engine tranny and tcase and axles were swapped into a CJ?

NEXT one

89 Grand waggy... what tcase ... 360, t727 tranny, centered d44

what do u guys think.... there is also a 77 i think that has a centered dana 20 so what tcase is that.

heres the deal, the shop owner owns an 89 grand waggy. the 360 went up. he had a 73 grand waggy given to him that had 57k miles on it. we pulled the motor and tore it down to check it out. NICE and clean inside.

well he also is getting a couple other waggy's given to him so we are left with the engines, trannys, tcases, and axles.

Another guy who works at the shop is trying to get his hands on either my cj or another cj to build a nice beastly cj. We are thinking we can put the whole setup from a waggy into a cj.

what do u guys think.

It is a Qudratrac. You probably don't want it. It may or may not have a low range and the front and rear are always connected. You can buy a disconnect for it, but it becomes expensive. Also, there is not a lot of parts availability for it. You may want to grab it if it is cheap and sell it on eBay because the people that have them like to buy spares for parts. Jerry Lake over on the www.BMJA.org page has a Qudratrac CJ and would be a good reference for you.

The offset one is a Quadratrac case. Full time, might not have low range and requires special fluid.

The centered one in the '77 would be a Dana 20. Strong, but lousy 2.03 low range.

Not sure what the 89 would be.

The 89 has a NP229.

It's got a viscous coupling. It's a POS IMO (at least for wheeling purposes).

Borg-Warner 1333 (Quadratrac) on the old, offset one anyway... I dunno about the newer one

you can tell if the qtrac (73) has lo range or not cuz it will have a bolt on reduction unit in front of the transfer unit.

qtracs are pretty beefy. more often than not it's bad maintainence that causes them to fail.

the 77 with a centered model 20 (you mean AMC20 right?) would be a dana 20 case i think.

the 89 is a np229. the 229 has a bad rep cuz no one read the owners manual or maintained the damn thing properly. still, it's not gonna be as strong as a part time unit. it runs on ATF.

"you can tell if the qtrac (73) has lo range or not cuz it will have a bolt on reduction unit in front of the transfer unit."

the reduction units on the q-tracks bolt onto the backside of the x-case not the front. it bolts on where a standard x-case with a centered rear pumpkin would have the output shaft .
