Driving home yesterday the 'Service 4wd' light was flashing on the message center in my rig. Push button 4wd Chevy Z71 LT ex cab 5.3L auto...

Any ideas what this could be? Is there a way to read the codes on it without a Tech 2 scan tool?

nice truck, Mine flashes shit all the time, than goes off, I would just engae the 4wd, drive real slow and make sure every thing is good to go, I doubt its anything serious. maybe check your front diff fluid.

I've done a pile of reading on this...my 2000 GMC 2500HD has the same pushbutton 4wd auto switching system...

According to the other forums I searched in, it's a bad switch, most likely bad solder joint. You DO need to get it fixed.....there are stories of the system automatically banging into low range on the highway....

Mine isn't yet....but it's on the list....which reminds me....

Most likely the switch at this point, I noticed that the lights to indicate whether it was in Auto, 2HI, 4HI or 4LO sometimes do not work while driving...

Anyone know the part # for the switch?
