Time for the disk swap. I have a 72 front axle under my 67, and here is the dilemma:
I have a complete mini truck front end, out of an 81. The truck was never hammered, not that it matters, because it will get all new crap anyway.
I also have a cruiser front end out of a 76.
I know the cruiser would be easier, but the mini is stronger, right?
Also, I figure that the mini axles are much more readilly available for when I break them.
What do you think? Which one would you do?

Disc brake Cruiser front end goes for between $350 and $600 depending on your location. I would use the mini parts and sell the '76 front end if you can get decent money for it.
Convert to mini disks and unload the stock disk brake axle to someone who wants an easy disk swap that is not into breaking the birfields.

Ditto the wise guys. A compliment of course. You'll have to grind the inside of the housing for the bigger mini birf to fit. Make sure it fits with the knuckles torqued down, otherwise no fun on the trail if you need to change one.

I think you should go with the Mini set up and give me back my axle:flipoff2: Besides, do yours first and then I can see how much to grind off the housing after you do it. I hate being the Guinnea Pig!:p

so it's pretty much a bolt on job to go from say a 74 cruiser axle to a 76? this seems to be the easiest way for someone who is not doing heavy wheeling huh? sounds like what I need to try. how much you want for the axle?

Donald Butcher -
I did the 74 to 76 swap (76 Knuckles to maintain my 2x steering arm for my SOA). It was an easy project for someone just learning. Toughest thing was breaking the old birfs off the inner axles.
Go for it and enjoy your new front disc brakes (don't forget to replace all your bearings while your there).
