kinda a newb?, but i'm still not sure
i can only afford 1 right now, it'll be another month or 2 for the other, which would you do?

right now i'm at 30:1, w/ the sm465 i'd be at 64:1

its an amc 304 in a cj5 w/ a q-jet

Considering you got a q-jet on there already I'd say lower gears.

It depends on what you biggest problem is. I did the gear thing and instantly needed better carburation(longer climbs, steeper inclines). If I would have gone the other way around, I could of held out a little longer.

Id definitely go for gears. Fuel injection swaps are generally more work and expense at the same time, although very worth it.

GEARS. More control=less parts breakage. You might want to consider some locking diffs too.

The q-jet is about as good as you can get for FI-like performance from a carb.

If you are at 30:1, you must bounce around a lot!
If you are already at 64:1 and you are talking about going further, then get the FI.

I'm at 75:1 and the FI is just icing on the cake. You will stall and clutch a LOT less at 64:1.

i've got 4.88's, t-1shitty, stock d20,

i've got the bellhousing and sm465 to install, just need the $500 adapter from novak, if i can round up some dana 18 internals to stick in the 20 case when i do the swap, i'll be at 78:1

Thats a tough call. Even with a good running carb when I went to fuel injection it was a HUGE difference on my AMC motor. But, lower gears really kick @ss too. Personally I'd go EFI first then go to the lower gears but thats just me.
