ok
2500
4WD
V10
just bought it and runs strong. the temp gauge runs higher than i like to see. it runs around 210 on the open road. then when in traffis it climbs to around 230. this is an estimation- you know the routine on the gauge increments
my 2000 chevy V8 work truck stays below 200 all day long with engine idling, AC on and windows open. it never gets that hot.
neither dpoes my jeep or my Z28 camaro so i have other vehicles to compare with.
so maybe:
flush rad
thermostat may not be closing all the way
water pump not functioning correctly
gauge not accurate
it doesn't boil over and the reservoir bottle is always at a good level. not leaking.
any thoughts out there????????
maybe V10 notorious for running hot?
thanks

Kinda like comparing apples to oranges. My Tj runs just above 210 all day long. Up hills, AC on or off.
The Yota I just sold ran at 160 all day long. It went up going up hills and AC didn't affect it.
As long as you're not pissing collant out from getting too hot, sound like it's running normal. It's best to ask the dealer.
Those factory temp guages aren't that accurate anyways. You might be right at 180.

Got a similar problem with my 96, 1500 dodge, 5.9l 360.
Runs warmer than normal all-around, get out on the freeway, WHAM, 240-250!
Radiator gets replaced this weekend in hopes that fixes the problem.
Also catalytic converter was plugged, that helped a little when I replaced it. Have you changed your cat lately? It's the dodge thing to do you know. (my only real complaint about dodge trucks)

i just bought it sat so i haven't done much yet. i have re-located the #5/#7 wires though :)
i need to flush the rad- just good practice on a used rig. i didn't get time today but tomorrow i will take it out- get it hot and shut it off....then see if the fan clutch has any resistance-if not , then that could be the problem right there.
could be faulty temp sensor too

Lesson learned.
aluminum radiator
flush/fill your system at least once a year and expect to replace it every 6-8 years.
I never flush/fill, always had brass radiator, never had a problem.
Now I will be, I learned that rad fluid goes acidic over time and oxidizes(?) the i nside of the alum radiator inhibiting heat transfer.
I have a 65yo guy in a corner shop for this knowledge... I was skeptical until I swapped my radiator out and dropped the engine temp 100 degrees!
Now I'm running around 130.

thanks man :)
i have drained rad and put in new 50/50 when i replaced the t-sta with another 190* stant...........NO CHANGE
yesterday i swapped out the fan clutch with one out of a 5.9..........NO CHANGE
i am still running up to 220* approx...in traffic worse than open road naturally. worse with AC on, again figures!
i am going to my radiator man tomorrow- get his opinion and price a new rad or see if he can clean-out this one.
thanks

hows your water pump?
Does your truck cool down a little when you turn on the heater on high?
I also run a 172* ? thermostat. Not the stock one.
Have you replaced your radiator cap? is it in good condition? Make sure it's the right cap for the truck. (my truck runs a 16lb cap factory)

water pump doesn't leak or make any bearing noise.
i haven't tried turning on the heater but that will nearly ALWAYS cool down an engine if it is running hot.
i decided not to run a colder stat so that the computer doesn't make it run richer.
the rad cap is a 17#. don't know how to tell if it is good or not. everything under the hood is in cherry condition.
thanks again
