Made a FAWKIN newbie mistake. got her running like a top, no smoke or tapping..Felt like braggin so I called over some guys that said "no way is that cow pasture piece of sh!t ever gonna run." Was gonna show em.... Well, before the initial startup, I didnt check my wiring and sure enough, my initial run caused a major short somewhere. All the "important" wires were resting on the exhaust. So much for braggin!

I still have it, though its sitting in a friend's yard waiting for the tranny to get replaced. Been that way since shortly after this pic was taken.
I've since taken the 35 mtrs off and put them on the TJ and put the 33 swampers on it. It will probably get the 35 mtrs back in a few months when I go bigger with the TJ now that isn't my DD.

He's building a tube chassis buggy like his sig says.... Selling off the majority of the parts except for the axle, engine, trans, seats, and fuel cell.
I believe he still has the cage for sell and the bumpers if you are interested...

Thanks man, I loved the rig too, I was just ready for something smaller and lighter. It was really hard to take it apart and part it out. I was depressed for like two weeks (literally) lol. But, I'm all riled up on the new project now. Like SloWag said, I've sold everything except the cage, sliders and bumpers and they are still for sale. For the buggy I kept the 60s, seats, harnesses, fuel cell, and engine for myself. As for the body and frame, I'll probably end up scrapping it. I actually sold the trans too Slo, I'm got a 435 that I'm sticking behind the 360. I've just about got the whole drivetrain for the buggy ready to go. All I lack is my Klune V. I need to order that soon. My atlas came in a few weeks ago and my 1410 yokes came in today actually. Things are slowly but surely coming together. I plan on narrowing a razor grill for the front. It should be pretty trick.

KYJ10 09-15-2003, 07:54 PM You can see a couple of recent pics in my webshots below. I just got my 44044 fronts today and my rear shackle inversion brackets today. Thanks Todd!
I am going to hang some chevy 1/2 ton springs in the rear. Trying to stay short and as little sprung weight as I can. So along with the doors and bed, I think the fenders are next.
Plan on a SMALL flat bed with some rails. Just enough to hold my cell, a spare and maybe a cooler? Moved the axles out around 3" each, and shortened the frame 12". If my early measurments are correct, I should be some where around 107-109' wheelbase.
1410 front shaft and 1350 rear. Hopefully will have the springs in so I can get the shafts finished. Maybe some newer pics over the weekend. Dennis

I'm in the middle of my conversion and am already changing my game plan. That'd be a 258 with the BBD carb, with a T176 (4spd) or T5 (5spd), NP208 transfer-case (that's a definite) and 2.73 or 3.31 gears.
That's a mileage-champ for sure (20mpg+ highway).

BobBarry 09-23-2003, 09:30 PM but here's the recipie for the 1:1 scale toy I've been working on.
Take one '78 Cherokee:
http://home.off-road.com/~wagoneer/cherokee/stuff01.jpg
Chop some I-beams to make a winch-bumper (since you can't buy anything pre-made):
http://home.off-road.com/~wagoneer/cherokee/winch12.jpg
Slide this in front for a bolt-on SOA with 7-leaf waggy springs, with a matching 14-bolt bolted to stock springs on lowered spring perches and inverted-shackles in back:
http://home.off-road.com/~wagoneer/cherokee/d60_10.jpg
Bolt on some old Michelins:
http://home.off-road.com/~wagoneer/cherokee/xml10.jpg
and run the power from a warmed-over 360 through this setup:
http://home.off-road.com/~wagoneer/cherokee/np205_01.jpg
Only tricky part is going to be keeping the axles from wrapping-up bad with the soft springs.

What problems is it giving you? I'm very happy with the performance of the Edelbrock 1400 on my wife's Grand Wagoneer. It's obvious why the design would suck off-road, but I think even that could be remedied; it's just a lot harder than on a Holley or Q-Jet.
ridgerunnerras 12-17-2004, 01:11 PM Yeah I agree that the edelbrock is a much better carb than the Holley or the Quadracrap
MocKKnight 12-18-2004, 01:38 AM Before i tore it down to rebuild it, the floats appeared to be sticking because it would stumble when I would turn. Now i that i have rebuilt it there is gas comming out the right hand size of the carb right by the vac piston.
So I tore it down again but when I bolted it back something had gone wrong w/ my starter and it wouldn't turn over. Now I gotta fix my Starter prob before i know what is wrong w/ my carb. I was thinkin i could have go the wrong rebuild kit. I got one for an Edelbrock 1406/afb kit for it. So i Think i might have got the wrong kit. I'm only 18 so Carbs are kinda before my time so this is my learning exprience.

The trick is to set the float so that it is parallel with the carb-top when it's at the right height. If you only set the tip of the float to the correct height, but the rest of the float-body is tilted, your float-bowl fuel level will be wrong.
The only things that you need right are the inlet needle-and-seats and the gasket. I have no idea whether the ones in the kit you got fit your carb correctly.
The reason that carb is so bad off-road is because of the float-bowl design. Many carbs stumble or stall at angles because fuel from the float-bowls pours uncontrollably out of the float-bowl vent when the truck is at an angle. This can be made worse when the float is bouncing all over the place, causing the fuel-inlet valve to be open, overfilling the float-bowl and causing fuel to pour out the vent.
Q-Jets are so good in this regard, because they only have a single central-mounted float-bowl, and you have to REALLY have the truck at some insane angle for the fuel to pour out the vent. Plus, the float-bowl is baffled and the float is in the center of the bowl, so you basically have to have the truck upside-down before the float hangs open.
Holleys have front and rear mounted float-bowls with separate vents that are tubes sticking straight up with a top cut at an angle. Those can be replaced with plain hard-tube, and easily tied-together by a piece of fuel-hose with a notch in the top. Holley's truck avenger carb does this with a single piece of hard-tube that has vent holes along the top. Even if fuel starts trying to come out the vent, it stays in that fuel-line rather than pouring into the venturis. You can also get a spring-loaded inlet valve to avoid it hanging open due to a bouncing float.
AFBs/Edelbrocks almost seem DESIGNED to stall out at angles. They have two side-mounted float-bowls, joined by a connecting passage. Even at a moderate side-angle, fuel from one float-bowl pours through that connecting passage to overflow the opposite float-bowl. Even worse, the float-bowl vent is not a tube, but rather an irregular open passage in the top of the carb casting. There is a spring-loaded needle-and-seat to prevent the float-bowl from overfilling due to a bouncing float, but that is only part of the solution. The real solution would be to block the fuel from pouring through that connecting passage, and then fashioning some tubes to fit tightly into those irregular-shaped vent holes, and then tying the two vent-lines together with a tube or hose to prevent any fuel that came up through them from pouring into the venturis.

ncjeepers 02-23-2005, 10:05 AM Since I can finally post, I thought I'd chime in.
Other folks have already posted pics of my tow truck and my M725 ambulance.
And that's me in my CJ-5 behind youngjeeper, waiting for him to get unstuck.
Here's my M715:

bigun 02-23-2005, 10:07 PM No pics yet I am in the process of putting a J20 cab and front fenders on a 76 cherokee frame with the J20 axles and a twin sticked D20. The reason for putting J20 cab on cherokee frame is cherokee floor pan was rusted out and didn't notice till we had axle swap finished. J20 had as much rust but less of it to repair. Eventully it'll run on propane with a short flat bed and an exo skel.
mossrocktj 02-24-2005, 04:22 PM I just picked up a J-10 and Im trying to fit 38's under it. I didn't want to soa the front so I picked up some 4" springs from rustys. The fenders have to be trimmed a lot, I was thinking Id copy "panel hack" from JP mag. I'm not too serious about this rig, but you never know.
robselina 02-24-2005, 09:21 PM guess I never posted my junk in this thread. here she is...

mossrocktj 03-06-2005, 03:00 PM Anyone know where to get a good deal on a D.U.I. distributor for an AMC 360?
Is the amc 20 in my J-10 worth putting a spool in, or should I just swap it for something bigger?

Rompn 07-06-2005, 09:49 AM Keep'n the thread alive. Don't have any pic's of the Cherokee being rebuilt but when I get the drivetrain put back in, I'll put up some pic's. It's a 79' Cherokee W/T with a warmed up small block 350, TH400 tranny, D20 transfer case with the Tera Low 3.15:1 kit and it's twinsticked. D44 front and rear (stock 3.54 gears) on 35x14.50x15 Boggers. Lifted 5" front, 4" rear.
fatwreck 07-06-2005, 11:16 AM I haven't looked through this thread to see if this one is in here or not, but I'm positive that these pictures aren't....since I took them. :p
It's not mine, but it is the FSJ that made me want to go out and buy one.

Sick lookn rig. I have never seen anyone else run their tank like that. Instead of a tank though, I'm going to be using an aluminum box that drops in and sits flush with the floor. It will have a hinged top and will house all of my spare accessories.

Sounds good. Do you have any aftermarket stuff off of the D44's you were running? I'm looking to run these axles until I either blow one comletely up or finish the 14 bolt/D60 build. I figure if I throw in some lower gears and possibly some aftermarket shafts that should hold me for a season or two. I'll be sure to upload some pic's of the new engine and such when I get back from vacation this weekend.

No wheeling pics yet, more to follow after its registered.
Rompn 07-21-2005, 10:30 AM Ok Garrett, this ones for you. This was my parts Jeep that I snagged the sbc 350, TH400, Dana 20 w/ Tera Low 3.15:1 gears, 4" Skyjacker lift and wiring harness from. Once the rig was pretty much stripped, I sold it for a couple hundred bucks to a guy who plans on using it as a test rig. that looks sick man. what springs are those in the rear? stock m-715?
and what flange do you have on the rear pinion, for the rotor?

All the springs are stock 5/4 ton, I upped to some 1.5" lift shackels after that pic was taken. Actualy lot's of things have changed since then...
The flange is a stock rockwell flange that I modified by welding a piece of flat, round steel to it. And drilled holes to match the lug pattern of a 91 Lumina.

Damage from the last trip What we think happened is since I do not have any lockers yet coming up on one of the ledges in the video you can see my front tire are spinning the it catchs traction and we think at that moment I twisted the shaft then a couple of days latter my buddy was showing someone how the twin stick worked let out the clutch and it went.

bigun 02-27-2006, 08:53 AM Well a group of us went wheeling last week Clem brought out his stock 80s J20 the other rigs were 1 chevy pickup and 2 dodge ramchargers. Clem wisely quit after the first drop off after everybody had to help him get down, I made it all the way to the third ledge then broke the front driveshaft again!

 I'm waiting for one.....:D
ChiefSlapaHo 03-14-2006, 04:54 PM Well, it's over.. the end to TPE (Todd's Parts Emporium)
Shipped the remaining bodies to the local recycler and my parts yard is finally closed at this location. I will continue to collect but not at this volume and the next buildup of the next wagon is right around the corner. Total talley that left out was 25 Jeeps 80% FSJ. I figured over the years that there had to have been 50 Jeeps easy pass through this yard  Oh well, here's a pic of the remaining that are soon to be crushed :(

This is almost bringing me to tears:( . We are just about to do this to our collection come this spring. Just too many useless, rusted out carcasses........ It will be a sad day.

76cjeep 04-12-2006, 04:36 PM It is really great to see so many FSJ's still alive out there. My family had a 1976 Cherokee Chief "Super Chief" with dark grey metallic exterior, black interior, 360, the ever famous Quadra-Trac, etc. Unfortunately my dad sold it in 1989 and there has been heavy regret ever since.:( I've tried to track it down in this area to no avail. I really wish I could have received it. If I ever find one similar to what my dad had I'd definately buy it and restore it down to the last nut, bolt, and washer. We still have Jeeps in my family. I have 2 CJ's, both 76's(irony?? ), and I bought my dad an 82 CJ-7 Laredo last year for father's day. But not a FSJ(yet).
Till I have a FSJ of my own someday all of you keep up the FSJ faith.
