my 97 psd is idling rough for a few seconds when it drops down to idle from any RPM above idle. it doesnt do it every time and it only does it for a few seconds then clears up to normal. so far ive heard fuel pressure problems and dirty injectors. the last psd i had it did the same thing when it was first started, and only then, and then it would smooth out. the starter was pulling alot of current and a new one solved the problem. the truck i have now idles rough after its started very seldom. i dont think its the starter this time because it does it more while driving. any ideas? TIA

thedieselstop.com is the reigning ford site right now. You might ask your question there.

What kind of oil are you using? It could be air bubbles in the oil.

It's probably one of two things:
1. CPS going out
2. High Pressure Oil problem. Check your oil level and make sure it's up to snuff. Also, check the level in your HP reservoir.

CPS is crankshaft position sensor, right:confused:

The CPS is the Cam Position Sensor. It is located on the front of the block and is easy to change. They run around $80. Since they are notorious for goping out, I would get a new one, switch it out, and keep the old for a spare. When the CPS goes out, they often go out slowly giving rough idle, the engine suddenly quits, or other periodic problems. When they go completely out, the truck won't run. A HP oil problem is less likely and much more expensive I am sure. I'd try the CPS out first.
