Well guys I am stuck at school. My rig wont start to save my life. I have NO clue whats going on with it. It cranks just fine, it just wont turn over. It always takes a long time to turn over, just like all XJs but this time it just wont start. here are some things. Brand new block, month old starter, fuel injectors are like a year and a half old. battery is like a year old. I have no clue what it is. Please help me get this thing started so I can go to the auto parts store and see if I can get some help there! This sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!   :mad2:

Crank Positioning Sensor
In the bellhousing on the driver side up top. Change it and it will run.

That sensor goes out all the time.
Costs about $50-75 bucks. Can be change with the vehicle on the ground. Do believe its has two 8mm nuts holding it in and two wires up by the intake manifold that unplug. Easy to change, and no the vehicle will not run without a new one.

I would just replace that thing in the parking lot. I change the one in my brother in laws 91 XJ in the driveway of their house. Took me 20 minutes at night time. No hard to do.

That's your CPS chief :flipoff2:
They tend to go out from time to time and usually give no warning. When mine last went out I was starting up the Jeep for the drive to work. Just started cranking but wouldn't fire. Really pisses ya off.
A temporary fix that will get you home is to unplug the harness and clean off the leads a little bit. Plug it back in and 9 times out of 10, you will fire up just fine. Usually the sensor doesn't actually go bad. Rather, it is the harness and wiring that gets fried on the bellhousing. I drove on my "broken" CPS for like 3 months before I got off my can and replaced it. Lots of extensions and wobbles will make the job much easier.

Hey Josh, when your CPS was going out, did it have trouble idling??
I can be driving down the road, and every so often when I hit the clutch to stop at a light, the engine dies. But then I can usually just crank it back up. Was thinkin it could be the CPS....
Thanks

Yea, I had that happen once or twice before I got around to putting the new sensor in. Put my foot on the clutch in an intersection and it died right there. Cranked for a good 45 seconds and nothing happened (busy intersection too) I turned the key all the way back, then turned it over and it started up like nothing was wrong.
I had that problem when the vacuum line to my MAP sensor fried shut too. Was running incredibly rich and if I put in the clutch without revving to 1500 or so it would die. Give that a shot. I chased that stupid problem all over the Jeep for like a month straight. Drove me nuts. The thing is, out of sheer coincidence the clutch hydraulic line, MAP, and CPS went out at the same time.
