my dodge V10 seems to be running hot-not sure yet.
i changed the fluid in the rad and replaced the thermostat. i took it for a short ride and it stayed right at 200*. it is a 190* stat. i need to go further and run the AC before i think i have it fixed. it was running around 230* before.

anyway...............:flipoff2:

my fan clutch spins free when cold and the same when i turn it off after getting it hot--fan still spins free- no resistance.

is this right? when idling and hot- the fan is spinning but doesn't seem to be pulling air much at all. is the fan supposed to spin faster that the engine?

what is the principal function of a clutch fan??? and how does it work????????

thanks

Checking the operational function of a Viscous fan takes time.

First from a cold engine you must get the engine to normal operating temp. (A/C turned OFF as well as the HEATER) approximentaly 5-minutes w/hood closed. Some vehicles take more time. * You may opt to have the hood open to check the cold start-up airflow. However, this legthens the warm up time.

Once it warms up, open the hood and place your hand in a safe area of the fan wash (airflow). The airflow should cycle strong to weak then back again cycling over a 15-minute period. If your vehicle has a temp. gauge you should see the needle rise and lower with the air flow.

If in fact the fan does not have a strong wash during the test period, place a large towel over the grill area to restrict air flow through the radiator. Be patient and continue the airflow checking as well as the temp.gauge making sure you DO NOT overheat your engine

GOOD LUCK
