Mine does the same thing but only when its hot, i was driving down the interstate after a local run and she just wont rev over 2500rpm. she just hiccups and sputters but around 2000rpm she does just fine. This never occurs while driving around town or close commutes to college, only when im doing about 80-90 MPH at long periods on hot days.....hmm.

I woud start with the fuel filter. The filter in the tank is really only a screen to keep large junk out of the lines. It should be somewhere on the frame.

as stated in the first post, the filter is built into the pump on 97+ xj's, its not on the frame anymore.

Doesn't matter where it is if it still needs replaced, my vote is the filter or tank screen or both. Also check that you don't have a bad plug wire or a clogged air filter.

This is a TJ Fuel pump asselbly, I'm not sure how it compres to an XJ one. I've also had to change my YJ one, and it was only about $100 at CarQuest.

The one from O'Smilleys is just the actual pump inside that big arse plastic housing and a new sock filter. It is around $100. I believe the one at the dealer replaces everything and that's why it's more expensive, but then again, it may not, it's the dealership after all.

If anyone else wants to see the TexasBlake and bburris way to change a TJ fuel pump click here. (http://www.texasoffroad.net/galleries/lonestar/album90)

We were able to clean and unstick the pump in my brothers mj after it sat with a 1/4 tank for a few months. I'd try cleaning the pickup screen and flushing the pump with carb cleaner before tossing it. Unless you're lazy and on't want to worry about having to do it again if it doesn't work. I was able to test the pump by just hooking it up to a battery and hosing it down with carb cleaner.

Note: we're broke asses so cheap fixes are where it's at. :flipoff2:
