I'm asking this for a fella here at work...he has a 96 F350 dually cab/chassis that he pulls a 21,000 lb 5th wheel with. Can the automatic tranny that is in it be built to be "bulletproof", and if so, who would you suggest as a builder? And if it can;t be built to be bulletproof, has anyone ever swapped in one of the dependable Allisons? Any details on an Allison swap?
Thanks, Louis

.........Oh.......it's a PowerStroke.

Nothing is bulletproof. This goes for manual as well as autos. The Dodge guys are installed cyro'd treated CrMo input/output shafts. The tranny will stay together behind 800+HP and 1400+ ft/lbs of torque. Not sure how long it will last, but that is what the dyno says for TDR member Jetpilot.

The guys with high HP manuals are breaking the input shaft on their trannys and upgrading to 1 3/8" shafts on the NV4500. They're also breaking the 1410 yokes on the pinion.

If you're going to play, be prepared to pay...

Go to DTT tranmissions in canada. They build a great dodge trans. Used in some sled pullers and on drag strip. They are also setting up ford these days. They are not cheap but it is a great product.

Go over to http://forums.thedieselstop.com/ Everyone, including myself will tell you that Brian's Truck Shop in Arkansas is the BEST trans builder for these trucks bar NONE. He has a website at www.brianstruckshop.com

Tell him Jason Lister sent you from California.

HOLD THE PHONE :D :D

Go to BTS in Lead Hill, Ar......he is the one who built MADDOG's E4OD tranny for his Cummins powered Ford.....Right now MADDOG is putting down 850HP to the ground....MUCH more to the rear wheels.....

BTS can bulletproof the tranny and also have a 2yr warranty
