So I am about to buy a FJ40. ( I am trying to get the one in the for sale section (76) but if that does not work I have a few other options, regardless, by next week I will have one I think.

What I am wondering is what is a good engine (v8) to swap in. In the Case of the 76 on the for sale section what would be good? Prices? Down here in San Diego I don't need it running for some time so down time wouldn't kill me, but like any new toy, I would want to play with it right away.

How long do engine swaps take if you have time? Advice? What do you guys think of FJ40's as an every day driver? I ethir get an fj40 or wait to buy a new truck. Not sure yet. But I always did want a FJ40 <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0">

You don't say anything specific about the condition of the vehicle so it's hard to guestimate a fair price.

A rusty, broken down beater may go for $800; a middle of the road FJ40 with high mileage, some minor body and mechanical issues for $3,500; a mint condition restoration vehicle for $25,000. The range is huge.

If the Cruiser you buy has an engine that's in good condition it seems kind of silly to bother swapping a new one in right away. Nothing wrong with Cruiser engines if you're looking to do some wheeling.

Where I live FJ40's make poor daily drivers. Bad gas mileage, drafty, smelly, uncomfortable... but then there's only a few months of sunshine here, maybe it's different down there.
