Is there anybody out there having problems with the air conditioning system on the 2003 GMC HD's w/ Duramax's? The Gm dealer has admited they have had thousands of AC complaints with the same vehicle yet they still can't solve the problem. So it looks like if you want to own a new Duramax you have to settle for a warm AC system.

In a little test we ran on the AC system on a few vehicles in the driveway we discoved the 2500HD AC unit on a 92 degree day, the coldest the AC woulds blow after 30min of running was 73 degrees. Then we tested a 2003 Tahoe, at the same ambient temp it blew 59 degrees. And that is just sitting still, on the interstate it actually gets warmer.

I'd just like to know if anyone else is having this same problem and if so does anyone know a solution before we have to go buy a Ford or Dodge. Thanks in advance for any help.

I was at our local chevy dealer the other day and there was a customer in with the same problem on his newly bought 03 duramax. He had mentioning somthing about the fan not coming on and they were going to look into it for him, but it didn't look too optimistic. Must be a common problem.:(

Yeah so far that's what I've found out. Appartly GM changed the standards for the AC system so they could avoid replacing tons of trucks. The dealers have said it meets the current standards for the 2003 models, even though any of the techs will tell you that the AC system sucks and theres nothing they can do about it. Thanks for the info though, hopefully they'll figure something out soon.

Not just 03's. I'm disappointed in the ability if my 01's cooling.

Had the system recharged and it did not make a difference.

It seems the fan just can't push the air fast enough. Thank god I have an interior color that doesn't roast me.

134A refrigerant systems suck! R12 cooled much better....:skull:

There are a couple of other threads at TDP on weak '03 A/C also.

I got a 2003 Duramax and everythings fine with the AC.....So far....I'll pay close attention to it now that I know this is a "common" problem....Thanks Guys....:D :D
