I was wondering what is involved in swapping electric brakes onto a trailer that has the hydro brakes on it already.
My trailer currently has drum brakes on all 4 spindles, and is running the 5 on 5.5 wheel pattern. The bolt pattern for the spindle is a 4 hole affair, 3" across and 4.5" down. The brakes don't work at all. Everything from the master cylinder to the drums needs to be replaced or rebuilt.
The outer bearings are Timken #LM11949 (ID of .746) The outer race is Timken #LM11910 (OD of 1.781).
The inner bearings are Timken #LML67040 (ID of 1.246) The inner race is Timken #LM67010 (OD of 2.328).
I believe this will all cross reference to some old 2WD Ford truck front end stuff. I am sure it is homemade. I am equally sure that I don't wanna go through the trouble and expense to rebuild this system, only to end up with shitty homemade brakes afterwards.
I am buying a '91 CTD Dodge 3/4 ton truck on Tuesday ( :bounce: :bounce2: $3800/138K miles :bounce2: :bounce: ), it has the electric brake controller installed already, so I wanna convert this trailer to electric brakes.
Where do I start? Is there a kit? Will I use some of the old Ford parts like the rotors for the electric discs setup? I guess a 2 wheel system would be plenty fine for stopping my 3800# Jeep? I want to do this myself. I'm not taking it to the local trailer place to pay them to do it. If I can build a Jeep, I can do this. I hope.
