I just bought a 73 CJ-5 and it needs a new tub.
Where is the best place to get a new tub? I was thinking about getting a Kevlar tub because i am considering wheeling it. Is Kevlar heavy or is it my best choice? could I use a CJ-7 or a YJ tub so I have room to sit and use the clutch:rolleyes:
thanks

Get steel, It is the easiest to repair.

No a Cj7 or a yj tub wont fit unless you want 10" of body hanging off the rear of the frame.
2 of my friends are running Fiberglass tubs and them seam to be holding up fine..

I think someone had one for sale in the PBB.. you might check classified. Go steel.... also.. Quadratec and 4WD sell replacement tub pieces, might be cheaper then buying.

i would have posted this in the newbie forum but ahhh what thet hell :flipoff2:

if you are going to drop the cash, go ALUMINUM !!
when my cj-5 body dies i will get an aluminum one. strong if not stronger than steel(1/4in thick), doesnt get shreaded on the rocks like fiberglass/kevlar and no more fawking rust :D
besides the price is comparable to any replacement. and if you get bored you can buff it out to a mirror finish.

and no a yj or 7 tub will not fit unless you streach out the wheelbase/frame. i dont know what you mean by no room to sit and operate the clutch as i am 6-1 and i fit fine

I have a mid 50's M38 for sale.$200 I am in Co. though. If your going to go new go for the JP aluminum. My buddy has one it is strong!!!!

Aprilrazz his is a '73 the '76 you have has a different floor in it.I am 5'10" and have a '75 body CJ-5.It is a tighter fit than the '76 and newer ones.:D

thanks for the input everyone, i guess i am just spoiled in my TJ with all of the extra room. or maybe i can adjust the clutch so my knee doesnt come back so much, or maybe i can get new seat brackets for the tub so i can sit back a little further.
it just seems like it is really hard for me to find products pre-76, or will they fit anyways?
thanks again
sorry for the newbie questions....

Is it really that hard to modify the body mounts? Because I would love to have the 76 body so i can get more products for the restoration. I know it sounds lame, but there isn't much bling bling pre-76....

JP aluminum tubs are the way to go, and i think they are reasonable priced as well.

We have definitly gotten our money's worth out of our JP tub. I wouldn't put anything else on now that we've run one for 2 seasons of HARD bashing and the tub is still in awesome shape.
