I just did the SOA with a D44 front but I cant get the center pin of the springs to go down in the hole on the pass side. I nee about a 1/16th of an inch more. Should I shave that much off of the diff housing or just shave a little off of the spring pack on that side? Has anyone else encountered this cause of the wide spring packs?

I would shave the houseing, I don't like to mess with springs more then necasary, and also this way if you ever change the springs they will just be a straight swap. So you will only ahave to grind once

I'm not sure which way it won't go in from your description, but -

If it won't go because it's off to the side, then just have someone push the spring sideways with their legs. If it won't go because the spring pin bottoms out on the housing, then just shave 1/16" off the head of the pin, or put in a 7/16" grade8 bolt, and take out the pin.

shaving the housing just seems ghetto...

Did you use a Chevy D44?

If so, you are probably off just a bit since the cast spring pad is set up for a 2.5" spring. If you are using a stock TLC spring, they are about 2.75" wide. Seems like the spring pack is hitting the housing. I would just hit the side of the housing with a grinder to remove just enough material for the spring pack to slip into the center pin hole.

Personaly I like to shave all the hair off my body and run around naked in public, but if I where in your situation I would just grind a wee off the housing (I am from the ghetto <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0">) and most certainly not screw with grinding the spring down. that will create a weak spot at the worst place on the spring. <IMG SRC="smilies/beer.gif" border="0">

The spring pack is hitting the housing. I'll go ahead and shave the housing down a bit and then post some pic's of it when it's all said and done. Right now it's sitting on 32's but I have a set of 36" goodyear Hummer tires on the way.
