Had a great time at Fordyce this last weekend. I let the GF drive the commando for a bit and she rolled it pretty hard on its side. Anyways, I need some one locally to build me up a cage. I live over at Travis AFB. I need to get it done in 2 weeks because I have another run comming up. I have money and beer, any takers?

no, i'm serious.

this fab work was touted earlier in this post and i was wondering if it should be considered strong enough because it doesn't look like it to me. granted, these are just spreader bars without any weight on them now, but if the Bronco they're in goes over all the way, i think they'd snap, especially knowing how heavy a fullsize Bronco is.

now, my question rephrased: am i correct in my assuption that this isn't strong enough, especially for the vehicle it's in?

hey man i just work here:D

the customers tell me what they want or dont want,as in spreaders i tell them there options. he wanted protection for his kids. this was the only option i could give him close enough to no spreaders at all.sitting in the back seat your head went in between those spreaders and wasnt cool, scary acually. for kids its fine but adults no way.

it was either bolt in type like pictured above, or nothing at all. if you have any better ideas i could of used let me know im always looking for others input

so all of you jumping to conclusion

:flipoff2: :flipoff2: :D

ill be at the shop today at about 3pm til late night

hey Ryan, couldn't you just weld the spreader bar itself to the clamp? or is the clamp aluminum or something? just wonderin

the clamps are steel, strong as hell, tjfan sp?? on the board sells ones just like them.he didnt make them yet when i needed these. :flipoff2:
there is no way to get the spreader out if you weld it directly, you have to position the clamp funny and it was still really close. we could have bent the last few inches of the spreadr to angle down but it would have raised it too tall. another thing he wanted is to move the spreaders elsewhere. you can unclamp the back ones and angle them out, and clamp the to the outside spreaders to triangulate the rear.

I take it the spreaders need to be removable... to put the top on?

A fabricator friend of mine, machined me some poly bushing type deals, that use alum inserts instead of the poly bushing. Kinda cool... solid and removable :D

the top fits with them on. they are removable for headroom depending on passengers.adult/kids

another thing is he didnt want any tabs in that area of the cage when the spreaders were not in use.

the soft top fits to,we also made it so the st still is able to fold down

wasn't trying to be an ass, was just questioning the strength of the flat parts and bolts more than anything, the clamps look plenty strong. the only suggestion i can think of is to build the cage super tight to the original hard top and it shouldn't hit anyone in the head unless they're like Tim Duncan-height, but if you're dealing with someone elses wishes, that's not always possible. another reason i was wondering about the strength issue is because i have seen these sorts of tabs used before on a rollcage in Korea for a rockcrawl/beach race vehicle, only, the slots for the bolts were elongated to compensate for bad measurements, i guess, and i thought to myself when i saw it that it can't possibly be strong enough if they go over, but what do i know?;)

those broncos are setup wierd......im about 5'8 and sitting in the back seat my head is about 2" away from the top??????? what do you expect from a ford lol:D

Dude, you were not being an ass at all.
In fact I see your point big time. Ryan, you are using bad fab work as an advertisement on your site. You should expect people to criticize what they do not think is good work. Period.
He did not jump to conclusions. You made that cage, it is not going to hold up well. right?

Thereare other options than what you did. Think of sleeving one piece of tubing in another and then a set of bolts holding them together. Much stronger and easier too.. Plus removeable.

I can't believe that you advertise something that is not strong enough then bark at people for asking you about it....
