I AM DISASSEMBLING A 86 CHEVY ASTRO VAN FOR THE VORTEC V-6 BUT WOULD ALSO LIKE TO USE THE POWER STEERING. BUT THE PITMAN ARM IS MOUNTED VERTICAL.BUT IT STILL MOVES SIDE TO SIDE LIKE NORMAL CROSSOVER STEERING. SORRY CAPS LOCK, anyway, does anyone know why it wouldn't work??? it seems like it'd work better cause the draglink can drop dramatically without causing the joint at the pitman arm to run out of travel. it has full rotation (ie up and down ) movement mounted this way. also, it's a trail only rig.
thanx in advance.

i can't think of any reason off hand why it wouldn't work, in fact i have always kinda wondered why pitman arms always end up on the horizontal plane anyway....(i know series Land Rovers have a vertical linkage set up like the older Toys, but i think in the "end" they still wind up moving horizontally where they attach to the drag link, i believe)
at first i thought maybe it would have something to do with bump steer, but still can't see the fault in it....

The only possible problem that I could see with a pitman that's mounted vertically (I'm assuming pointing down?) would be that it might hit the springs when the driver's front is compressed.

the springs won't be a problem though cause i'm runnin a samurai frame widened out for blazer axles so it can't reach that far. anybody know any other reasons it might not work???? thanks guys
