hey i was just wondering what else i could do, i dont have a trailer and my 88 toyota 4runner isnt street legal (no tags/registration) so currently i just have my buddy with his fullsize gmc strap me to the trails (the shop really, right now since the motor is being worked on) and i get all kinds of real interesting looks ROFL from bystanders since we used one 20 foot tow strap to pull my 4runner on 35s. thank god, my brakes are strong and i have a pretty quick reaction time so we didnt have any problems, but lol it's gotta be dangerous, how much do tow bars cost? how hard are they to put on? i think i'm gonna use my spare set of 31s to pull around on, and then when i get to the trail, just throw on the 35s.. should be a bit safer that way. i'm just a young dumb college boy so i dont have enough money for a trailer yadda yadda what if something huge breaks oh well tough shit i still cant afford a trailer so spare me the trailer speech, just tell me what i need to do to flat tow a rig safely thanks!

At the very least a tow bar. Check Wal-Mart

wow... chlorine in the gene pool again...

Walmart sells a $100 tow bar, it'll bolt onto your front bumper... they also sell some magnetic signal lights that plug into your standard 4prong

surely they got a Walmart in Conroe.

hahaha i knew i'd get some responses like that.. lol. yeah our group of friends tend to be a little crazy sometimes, i was laughing my ass off at all the people goin   as we puttered on by. If i could have used a trailer i would have but i had no other way to get the truck to the shop. i'll have to go on up to walmart and check out that tow bar.

I would rather drive any vehicle (and risk a ticket) than to flat tow again. IMHO, flat towing is more dangerous than any other type of towing available.

nah fuck you'll be fine. I've flat-strapped across the country before. my friend has an s-10 with the big v-6 and it pulls my shit great. we pull that bastard to the trails all the time no probs. nothing like willingly endangering anyone around you!

I have done that before towing a broken down vehicle but not far.
In MA if the vehicle is not registered it has to be off the ground on a flat bed or a trailer.

ok.. WHY would you strap a rig to the trail? I mean... whats the point?

I'll admit to strapping one off the trail and back to camp on a 30' strap at night doing 65mph for 30 miles. But, both of us knew what we were doing. (I wouldn't pull that stunt with just any driver in the strap towed vehicle)

I agree, on the towbar. Flat towing sucks, but if you have to it's better than nothing, certainly better than a strap, and better than a car dolly.
