Driving through town today I saw a Dodge for sale. Details are....1994 Dodge 2500, V10 Magnum, 90K miles. Downside is tranny is slipping between 1st and 2nd. PO used it to tow a 5th wheel. Owner is asking $3500, was talking to her friend who has it in front of his muffler shop and he used words like "very motivated to sell" and "willing to deal"
So...y'all are smarter than me on pickups..whats the word?

I don't own one, but I've done a ton of research. The conclusion that I have come too is that if you are wanting to tow, haul any thing decent, or the previous owner towed with it, the Dodges with autos. should be avoided like a pregant teenage girl.
Here, they are a bit harder to find, but they do exist (I test drove one the other day), but look for a 5 speed, especially if you are going to be towing.
NOTE: Once again I do not own one, and I'm sure there are people that haven't had problems, but the biggest complaint I read or hear about them (and guys here at work have had problems) is the automatics.
Personally, I'd pass, plus that V10 is gonna suck gas like Monica.
Find out what a ful tranny rebuild will run you, then add that to the asking price and see if you still think it is worth it.
The Dodge V10 is about as bad as it gets when it comes to gas mileage, but as long as you are ok with that - and the overall package - go for it :)
Price is definately attractive though...

Thats my plan. I think I'm going to drop by and test drive it today and take it by a tranny shop and see what they say.
Did some checking on the web..seems like they say about 10mpg in city use so I figure about that or so towing on the highways. Thats not a whole lot worse then Im getting flat towing my rig now so hopefully won't be too bad

90k Is not bad..3500 is a good price if its clean..so how many gas tow rigs get (good mileage)...Offer them 2000 and get a tranny for it..I know here in oregon thats a pretty smoken deal if its half ass clean..The motor alone ought to go for that at least..Hell even if ya fix it and sell it sounds like you should be able to make some cash..

I just dumped 4K in a dodge 47re trans in a diesel. I think the v10 has a 47rh. I pull 12k at times and I did go overboard on the rebuild. 1200 for converter and hardened billet mainshafts front to back. I have been am putting about 400hp and 700 or so ftlbs. through it for 30,000 miles and it is great. If you want the best rebuild you can get go to Diesel trans technology. They can hook you up for a lot less without all the options. Great service and warrenty.

i just bought one 2 weeks ago so my experience is limited......
95
2500
4WD
V10
47RH auto tranny
241 t-case
D60 front
D70 rear/LSD
3.55 gears
102,000 miles
it is the SLT laramie so has all the power shit....doors/windows/mirrors/seats
the V10 is strong and fast but i didn't really need/want one-V8 5.9 would have worked for me.
the tranny problem you have is an issue for sure. don't know if you want to rebuild or swap it out.
the price is decent and the milage is good too.
the #5 and #7 spark plug wire issue is something you might look into. i will try to attach a link.
yes, it guzzles gas..what truck don't:flipoff2:
i might hold out for another one with a working tranny :)
