66CJdean 12-06-2001, 07:51 PM That T bird should get it. Nice job. We all use the Ideal iron would bet. You can order one from Afco.com.

Thanks, they do work great! It's amazing what a few little cuts can do. Selling these things though. Time for 35's. :)
I also used the Ideal iron, with a #6 blade.
those t birds look like they took a long time

What are you talking about?
Dingo 12-07-2001, 02:19 AM kind of off the topic of pics.......but where do did everyone get the irons and what did they run? I tried that Afco.com mentioned above, but it was an insurance website.
welndmn, sorry if I am changing your topic.........lets see some more pics.

www.afcoracing.com is correct I think. You can also get it through www.mrtrockcrawlers.com (that should be right too).

all your cuts are straight across the treadwidth......sliding sideways could be easy to do, especially if things get a little moist.
Paul Gagnon 12-07-2001, 07:22 AM I know what he meant but I don't see how that applies. The tread blocks are not continuous from one side of the tire to the other and the lateral edges have only been made smaller, not removed.

My Jeep came with a set of those things that havent been grooved. I will tell you one thing... aired down they don't slide sideways very easy. the sidelugs usually catch first.
welndmn 12-07-2001, 09:57 AM sweet guys i got about 20 pics now, i will make a page later this week, expalining groovers, Sipeing and all the different pattens i have seen
Rokmycj 12-07-2001, 03:45 PM Does anyone have a groover in the Sac area they would consider renting or loaning? I have a set of tires I wan't to Fawk up before I buy one.
HighToy 12-07-2001, 04:11 PM Have you been in the snow with that tread design yet? If so how did it work out for you. I have 35" t-birds and they need help when it comes to snow.

I haven't been in the snow with them. The traction was improved noticabley on rocks and in mud the difference was pretty dramatic. I used to need quite a bit of wheel speed in the mud but after grooving I could take it easier in most situations. It also quietened (is that a word?) the on road noise just a little bit. It makes a good tire even better.
86YOTA 12-08-2001, 05:41 PM ok, i was going to buy T-birds a while back, and was totaly discuraged by everybody around, now i am hearing that they are pretty good, and even better when siped... so what gives??? are they any good? or crap??
on a difrent note, i stuck with the BF TA's for the over the road option
EasyXJ 12-09-2001, 06:35 AM I had a set of suckbirds for a while, they were complete crap. I always wanted a tire groover to make them work cuz they have a good concept, just no traction. The only place I liked 'em was in real loose dirt and deep ruts.
Easy
Paul Gagnon 12-09-2001, 09:55 AM And I had my Thornbirds for 4 1/2 years and I have no major complaints about them except that they are loud. They took me everywhere I wanted to go.
jslamerman 12-09-2001, 11:25 AM I never in a million years thought I'd say this, but after this grooving discussion, a set of thornbirds sounds like a pretty good Idea...... sorry had to slap myself again, its a habit! Those have awesome side lugs (better than SXs) and could be grooved in a similar fashion so as to make it perform in mud (for once!!), adn be cheaper! Cool, Thanx
jslamerman 12-09-2001, 11:27 AM Hey, whats the static height on those anyway? I mean measured, not what interco says, on a set of 35x12.50 16s or 16.5s????
