I'm looking at a tow bar for my YJ. I was looking at the warrier and currie shackle mount systems. Any opinions or other options I should look at?

Thanks

Don't know how much they cost. I just went the $80 route and got a "draw-tite" brand tow bar, and bolted it to my front bumper. Front bumper "was" (before I ditched it for other reasons) a chrome aftermarket thing made off rolled steel, about 1/4" thick. I ended up reinforcing the mounting point behind the bumper with some 2x3x.250 angle because the bumper failed my load test, slighttly deformed the bumper, like less than an 3/16" bend. It's not like the bumper tore in half or came off the frame.

(Load Test = hooked it up to my truck, jeep in 4 low parking brake set in 1st gear engine off. I decided if I can dragit across dry pavement it is strong enough.)

I've got a set of stock height front Currie Tow Shackles that I need to get rid of (went shackle reversal) on my YJ.

Interested in them???

twaldher, thats why I was looking at the shacke kit. I wouldn't trust the stock bumber to hold up to a tow bar. I've never seen anyone running the shackle style, but they look pretty beefy. Rockdogzyj,if I go with the currie bar I'm interested in the shackles. The currie bar doesn't look like it folds down though and the warrier and drawtite do.

FWIW I bolted some tow bar "brackets" to the stock bumper on my 84 CJ. No backing plates. (I was skeptical as well, but it has hel up fine, big safety chains give me piece of mind)
Towed it all over...no problems, and no deformation of the bumper evident.

Will be going Shackle Reverse/outboard soon, so my custom front bumper/front x member will incorporate those same "brackets".

SInce I will be SOA, I will have to get a drop hitch, and flip it to keep the tow bar level, or close to it.

PS Twaldher like the load test...I'll have to try that for shits and giggles. ;)
