hey i'm working on swapping in toyota axles into my samurai. the rear axle has been swapped in, with no driveshaft attached yet. well i wanted to move it out of the garage so i put it in 4 wheel drive with the hubs unlocked. i started it up with the transmission in neutral and the front driveshaft was turning  I shut it off and locked the front hubs and started it again with the tranny in neutral and it was slowly moving forward... anybody have any ideas why this is happening??

Sounds like your clutch is not adjusted properly. If you are in 4 low it doesnt take much to pull forward if the clutch is still engaged Hmm didnt rear that right didnt see neutral
Were you on a hill? :flipoff2:

Your gear oil is cold. you shold see what it does at zero degrees.

There's still some friction inside the tranny in nuetral, so with the engine running and the clutch engaged, it's not that strange to have a bit of creep.

they will creep forward when they are cold .....and if it is really cold ive seen mine move 3-4 feet you will get used to it........

:D What kind of oil you got in tranny. If you're using straight 90 wt. this is exactly what you will get. When it's 0* and you have drive shafts in with brake set the motor will stall out. Try 85 / 140. It'll still creep a little when cold, but not as bad

I agree, but I had this prob one winter, to the point of which it would stall the motor and lock the trans into gear. I changed the gear oil out and went with 30 weight virgin oil, no detergent. I run this in everything that has gear oil in it. You could run the same type oil, but thicker if you live in a warmer climate, like 50 weight. My .02:D

I agree, for what its worth, A Trans. mechanic in town recommends using 30wt. non detergent in manual trans. Something about less resistance when cold, and being "thinner" It lets the oil disperce better inside the trans.
