Where can I find a 12mm wrench for adjusting the distributor on my 81FJ40 with the stock 2F motor. I am having a tough time with using a standard 12mm box end wrench. I have seen specific distributor wrenches but the are for non metric style hardware? Is there a metric distriutor wrench made?
Thanks

There is no Cruiser specific wrench for this purpose.
I thought the wrench you needed to loosen the distributor for adjusting was a 10mm. Are you loosening the bolt that goes thru the clamp perpendicular to the ground right under the body of the distributor? There is a bolt that goes into the block that holds the clamp in place that takes a 12mm wrench. I may be wrong on this, not having worked on an 81 2F, but the 79 is like this.
A small box end or a 1/4" drive socket and extension usually do the trick once you get down there. Climb up on the tire and reach way over and under the distributor and feel around, or go between the frame and inner fender, under the battery support.
Good luck,

I've always used a deep socket and a ratchet to get to that nut or a socket on a short extension. Thought it was 10mm?
I do have a 10mm/12mm "distributor wrench" I got for reaching the 12mm nuts at the base of my carb. It doesn't reach the distributor nut as well as the socket. I got it from Albany Tool Mart in Albany, CA. Great little tool store!

Thanks for the info. The bolt that I am tightening is the one that clamps the distributor to the block on my 2F. I will see if I can get a different wrench to do this then the small 12mm box end that I am using. With the oil filter right next to the distributor it is very hard to access the bolt which allows you to adjust the distributor. Again guys, thanks for the help.

Brad, you can always use a long screwdriver too if it isn't too tight.

It's been a few years since I had a 2f but if I remember right I took a craftman 12mm box/open end and heated up the box end and bent it a bit and ground some of the thickness off the outside of the box to make it fit. I hope that helps.
