: Front brake problems / questions

Here's the scenario:

The front calipers are not releasing after they've been engaged. If I undo the brake hoses they'll release. I've swapped out another set of calipers and the same thing happens. There's no loss of fluid so nothing's leaking. I don't think it's a proportioning valve because it's both front brakes as opposed to one front brake and one back brake. It's not the master cylinder for the same reason. My last guess is failing brake lines? But, if they go bad would they act up like this? I've never had a brake line fail in this manner - let alone 2 lines do this at the same time...

What's your take on this...anyone?

Most likely a brake hose, unless you have been messing with the master cylinder and got the rod out of adjustment. One hose could poss. cause both sides to lock, but not likely. I would try the hose. The hose usually colapses inside and causes this to happen.:flipoff2:

But wont a colapsed hose cause a exissive brake effort too...

Try to isolate your concern . Applie the brakes lossen the master cyl lines & check your calip if it dosen't releases go to p/valve...

i replaced every rubber line and the calipersstill the same problem i then removed the prop valve same problem......the problem went away like magic when i installed another master cylender....

i have yet to find anyone who can give me a reasonable answer as to why this happened and i cant answer the q???? my self....

all i know is that the problem went away when i installed a different m/c ......and the only reson i changed the m/c was ther was nothing else left too change.......i didnt even use a new m/c it was a used one off of the 86 parts rig that i have.......

no im not a mechanic no im not sae certified yes im just a cheap bastid who is too pig headed to pay someone who actualy knows what there doing to fix the problem.........

I have the same thing happening in my baja bug. The master cylinder bore can most likely have corrosion on it and not allow the piston to return. It's just like keeping pressure on the brake pedal. I would immagine if there was a little bit of air it the master cylinder it can corrode the crap out of it, brake fluid is very oxidizing.

I had a problem with a rear caliper (rebuilt) hanging up when I did the conversion. But, since I had no proportioning valve (spooled front & rear) and new lines it was evidently somewhere else. So I swapped it with a front and the problem followed. It ended up being the caliper carrier that was binding! The fix was to use an old carrier...thank GOD for parts JUNKIES :)
