Doin' a SOA on a YJ and was told kicker shocks would be the way to fly for curing axle wrap. What are they(besides the obvious), where can I get them and how much?

Kicker shocks what the hell? Why would you want those? Just get a Sam's anti-wrap bar or something similiar. Make your own if you have the tools.. :smokin:

I was told ladder and traction bars will limit flex considerably and the kicker shocks will work terrific with the extra droop the revolver shackles will give. Just lookin' for other peoples opinions and know this is the place to get it!

Right.............................. um kicker shocks are like tits on a boar or lips on a chicken. Your choice. Try doing a search on traction bars and see what the numerous posts and pics yeild you. A simple variation of Sam's bar will net you more than you could want. :shaking head: kicker shocks

Rockslut.....correct me here if I am wrong but since when do SHOCKS.....of any kind reduce Axle Wrap:question:

Traction bars limit the rotation/pivoting of an axle....not shocks! That is unless shocks are now made of SOLID STEEL to take the abuse of AXLE WRAP:confused:

As they say on the Old Toostie Pops Commercial "The World Will Never Know"

by who??? not on this PBB I am sure. :D

A properly setup ladder/traction bar won't limit flex alot. you might loose a little, and the little I personally lost with mine I think I could get back if I felt the 1/2" or so of droop I lost was worth it. The bar was worth that pretty small loss in flex.

Putting the traction bar as close to the driveline as possible and a goofy shackle on the front mount will almost eliminate any loss in droop that you will get. I personally have NEVER seen a kicker shock do anything but look pretty on the fullsizes with the 40 other chrome shocks. They would only help in higher speed applications like a regular shock works, it isnt going to do anything at low speed when you are climbing a rock and your pinion wants to go sky high. Maybe if they were gas charged shocks and were constantly pushing the pinion down, it might help but not cure the problem like a traction bar will.

Hey twaldher what did you all do in making your traction bar? Could you email me a write up tubing diameter thickness etc? I like the brace type set up on the axle.

Nice traction bar setup, looks like my Sam's but what axle is that???? Looks like a model-tity I mean Model 20.. :D :D :D

That would be a Waggie M-20. It's the bigger better brother of the CJ 20. heck we drilled the tube for a breather line to discover the tube was about 3/8" thick! The price on it was right, picked it up drum to drum for $50, then I just replaced the bearings, brakes, sandblasted, and POR-15'd the thing. Then had crash truss it and do the other metal work needed for it

To answer the tubing question, it is 1"x.156 DOM. Just so happens that that is the exact ID needed to Tap a 3/4-16 thread for the heim joints in to it.

My Mustang has "kicker" shocks on it. They supposedly limit wheel hop under hard accelleration. But I can't see them doing a bit of good on a trail rig. I put a Sam's bar on mine and the flex is killer. I mounted it as close to the diff as I could and angled it slightly towards the center of the skid plate to minimize it's effect on articulation.

Kicker shocks are worthless. Do a bar as shown in the pictures. The shackle at the front end of the bar is necessary. Without it, you would bind up unless the bar attached on the axis of the forward spring attach bolts so the bar would swing the axle on the same radius as the spring.
