sorry Man it anin't free is the only source that I have found. I was in the process of building one but got scared off by the feds. I still may build one for use outside the usa but with all the money needed to get it approved here I just can't take on the project.

I have never spoken to anyone who has an aftrmarket fuel tank for the 60 series that has ever gotten the advertised quanity into that tank! There must be some sort of different meausrement used when building them.

Opposite Lock is in Australia so I would guess liters.

I know the Spectre tank is pretty new for them. It is $845 . But it looks like a really good unit.

hey sloan!
you said: Opposite Lock is in Australia so I would guess liters.
they are probably talking imperial galons, since they used to belong to the british empire and now are part of the commonwealth.
a US gallon is about 3.86 liters where an imperial gallon is about 3.5 liters which would explain the lower than advertised amount of fuel the tank will actually hold.

All the Kaymar stuff is imported by Man-a-Fre, so if you go to another dealer for a tank, rack or bumper you will probably have to pay more because they go through them anyway and shipping is HUGE on these parts.

Anybody know of a larger tank from some other vehicle that would be (semi-) easy to adapt?

and most the kaymar/Long Ranger(gas tanks) stuff comes into ARB in Seattle......then to MAF, at least it use to, I have seen pallets of it heading to CA and even South America.

Personaly I have been very pleased with Man A Fre and would not hesitate to order from them. We had a problem with some of the sliding window for a 60/2, Al(owner) took care of it in a very profesional maner.....I think they are working VERY hard to customer service

I've got the MAF (Long Ranger) replacement tank in Knuckles. It's got all the vents, emission hoses, it's a simple plug and play bolt in. While not 42 gallons as advertised  it's still a lot of gas I figure ~38 gallons (Long Ranger calls it 150 Liters). Currently driving around Pismo on gas bought in Placerville. :D

Sorry, never had any luck finding alternatives before getting this one. You might try Aerotanks(?) in Corona(?) for a custom one.

If I had a photo of it I'd post it, Royal Rose build himself a real neat one out of aluminum. I think Landpimp is right, most come through seatlle to Aus. I know um, hehem, Kurt at Cruiseroutfitters carries them...:flipoff2:

I did speak beifly with a guy out at Areo tanks who thought he could build me one for a fair price. Never went much further because my 60 was a garage fixture but now that I am moving forward on that project got to look back into a bigger tank.

Hey George you ever have any luck finding anything else??

Yeah i think Aerotank is the solution. And while you are at it-if its custom....you should get a massive one built that covers the tire area and hooks on down to one that runs up the inside of the frame. Last time i took a tape to my 55 i found easy room for 85gallons without hanging below the height of the frame and keeping to simple square box shapes which for the custom guys is easy.

I think the Aero guy quoted me something like $250 for my simple boxed 25gallon--run along the frame-shape and around 300 for the larger one.

For the price of one ARB i think he can make you a 45gallon box to replace the original and spare tire.....and then another 20 gallon rectangle along the frame rail for an easy 65gallons or $130dollar fill up..!

"yeah fill her up.....i will be back in 20minutes"

Remember gas weighs a lot when fabbing these big tanks. Hey PismoJim, what all was involved in the hooking up of the Man-A-Fre tank?

pismojim

Hey PismoJim, what all was involved in the hooking up of the Man-A-Fre tank? Remove the tire carrier cross member and existing tank. Bolt new tank it into existing holes. Plumb a few hoses and vents. Oh yeah, put extension on the stock sender unit and install in new tank.

Actually, I simply drove down to MAF and let them install it. :flipoff2:

It did seem pretty simple after seeing it done.

BTW, it's always been fairly protected, but I did put my first dent in it on my last Rubicon run. Dang crawler gears are putting bigger rocks under the rig on the more "creative" lines. :p The tank is tough and still looks good after taking a hit.

Just a few things to add...

I had a good customer looking to upgrade his fuel capacity on his FJ60, didn't want to pay the MAF prices and thought that there must be other solutions...

1. Called Aerotech, was told they no longer make one for that model due to Federal Regulations? They do list in on their website however.

2. Custom, probably the easiest for somone with fab skilss, but the time and materials will add up quickly.

Oh yeah gas weighs anywhere from 5.8-7.2 lbs per gallon, so 40+ gallon tanks get very heavy... :D

Cruiseroutfit, So what did your customer end up doing?? once I get my 60 back on the road I will want more gas tank size. later

My customer ordered the opposite lock unit and I will be getting it next week, we are going to measure it up and build my own tank.

I still cannot figure out why these are not built locally, shipping on such a heavey large item seems to defeat the pricing issue.

If I could figure out how to build 10 or more tanks for a good price it may be worth while to get a groupe purchase together?

Patience gentlemen, as with most problems I have ever run into with a LC build project it can be solved hot rodders. Found an ad in Rod and Custom for aluminum tanks starting at $450 built to your specs. Best part is they are in San Bernardino.:D

Never count the rodders for fabbing up crap you need, plus you can save a little weight with aluminum.:D

Are the custom tanks baffled?

Oops, yes they are fully baffled. WWW.NOLIMIT.NET :D

I coordinated a custom gas tank for a bobbed 55 here in Virginia...the guy that I had fab up the tank does all the replacement tanks for Land Rovers---rovers east or something like that. He baffled the tank and put in all the necessary tubes (or atleast all the ones that we told him to) pretty straight forward and I think it was under $200...

I would emphasize the thought of weight...my 55 tank is ripping apart since the factory tank doesnt' really incorporate any support below...if this tank goes, I might consider going with a custom one, I really don't like the long range one for the 55 since it hangs so low...does the aftermarket one for the 60 hang really low?

I've thought a bit about this, and found this:

http://www.quantaproducts.com/store/prodinfo.asp?number=GM-25F&variation=&aitem=5&mitem=8

It's 40 gallons, looks like it would physically fit (35" x 28-3/4" x 13-1/8") if you removed the spare hoist crossmember, and depending on how it was suspended (I'd try the GM straps) it looks like it would be 1-2" below the bottom edge of my frame rails, I HAVE A 2" BODY LIFT. Maybe. You'd have to skid-plate it. You'd have to keep it out of the way of the rear diff, and dunno about the inlet location (never had mine off). Closest thing I've found off the shelf, but it's DEEP...there is a gasoline version, I just didn't care :flipoff2:
