: New Project HELP and Ideas
flexlarson 09-08-2003, 08:29 AM OK Guys Heres what I have and I want some input
I posted on Suzuki board because . Well who else has more of an open mind than zukers .
My dad gave me his 93 2 wd chevy s-10 pickup that was hit in the side real hard. Frame is Ok but drivers door and bed are toast.
It has auto tranny and a 4.3 throttle body injected motor with about 100 thousand on it. Runs really strong.
I was thinking about cutting doors off and removing bed ,chopping top making a cage shortening frame and adding a Solid front axle (toyota ) and toyota rear then using a divorced Samurai T-case and making a sort of buggy thingy.
What do you guys think?
I have some samurai springs , SOme TOyota rear springs,Some Wrangler YJ springs.
Set of samurai Axles
Thoughts or Ideas on this setup
fatkid 09-08-2003, 09:12 AM I think you would be ahead by not using the the partial frame and building a tube frame or transplanting your 4.3 into a Toy. After the fact thats what I should have done. I would also find a better T-case than a Zuk case, if you have to do it why not get a case that is strong and better suited for the rear axle you have in mind. Just a thought... :)
SJ410Rocker 09-08-2003, 10:15 AM Use a dana 44 from a wagoneer up front and you would be best off upgrading the rear axle to at least a 12 bolt. I built my friends SAS S10 and upgraded to 35s and TBI 4.3L. These pictures are a little old and will be updated soon. You can go to the junks and find a 4.3L - 700 r4 4WD combo and take the T-case with the tail section and adapter from the 700 r4 to make your life easier.

fatkid 09-08-2003, 10:21 AM Why a 44 up front and 12 bolt?
SJ410Rocker 09-08-2003, 10:34 AM Just a suggestion. The Toys will work absolutely fine. I know the 12 bolts suck balls from the factory. I am just a little spoiled by the one I got from my old Vega that was built to the hilt. The 44 was to get a little wider. Not always everyone favorite thing to do though. If you got Toys use toys. I used stock S-10 rear springs up front which is pretty close to the same thing as the Toy springs. We've now upgraded to C-20 rear springs.
flexlarson 09-08-2003, 10:35 AM Ok
Go find a 700 R4 and transmission from a yard.
What is a Chevy transmission that will work good and be light?
Unfamiliar with chevy Junk.
I like the weight of toy junk and ease of workin on. I have it on my current rig without dilemas.
If I didnt use a samurai divorced case what other divorced cases are available?
flexlarson 09-08-2003, 10:43 AM couldnt access the Pics from link above
SJ410Rocker 09-08-2003, 10:55 AM The 700 r4 is the transmission that you have now it just needs a t case adapter on the back along with the output shaft section to mount them together. I don't know why the link didn't work for you. I just tried it and it worked fine.
flexlarson 09-08-2003, 01:02 PM Its blocked from my work.
SO I can go get a T-case adapter to mate one to the 2wd tranny I have now?
From what do I obtain this part from?
flexlarson 09-11-2003, 07:33 AM Ok . When changing out the back section to a 4wd t-case model do I need to pull the tranny apart or anything?
I think im gonna really start liking this idea. The 4.3 has tons mor power than my previous rig with the toy 22re
flexlarson 09-11-2003, 08:56 AM heress kinda what Im thinkni about doing
just a lil smaller . I wanna keep it lighter
I like being able to push my rig over stuff by myself.

I like being able to push my rig over stuff by myself. Yeah, right! Hate to burst your bubble but by the time your done with the cage and all you'll be luck to be at the same weight as the S-10 is now. Try pushing it now....
BTW have you ever seen a 9,000 lb. winch strain?
flexlarson 09-11-2003, 03:00 PM Ok I can lift the back up now with ease on the s-10 . I took the box OFF >
Im thinkin Toy dual cases,4.3 motor some tube and Toy axles . Shouldnt be to heavy should it?

SJ410Rocker 09-12-2003, 01:37 PM My friends S-10 is pretty light and has tons of power with the 4.3L. It gets as good fuel economy as the Sammys, it's awesome. I think I will get some pictures of that best on the trail next time it is out.
flexlarson 09-12-2003, 01:58 PM some info on that thing would be greatly appreciated.
Lets see pics and info please?
