If you all had the choice, which would you go with behind a Chrysler 383?
A 727, a 435 4 spd, or the original T90?
Any input is appreciated.

That all depents.... what do you like? Sticks or autos??

*I* like stick, wheeling, *I* feel they give me more control and feed back, at the expence of having to juggle another pedal.

Autos have a huge advantage as well, expecialy on hill climbs and progressive power application but I still prefer my manual.

We (my wife & I) put a auto in our scout behind a 360 mopar. I love it! It works great when we go dune ronning in oregon or just trail riding up in the hills. We did change our gears down to 5:89s with 36 inch swampers With a heathy engine gears a slush box is the only way to go.

Go with a 727 with a jeep tail housing so you can go Jeep D300 and add a Klune V or just add an Atlas when you get the $$.

I think auto is better, but I just like stick cuase its more fun (except for when your smoking the clutch and spinning tires up a muddy hill, but oh well)

Depends.. what are you going to do with your Scout? :D

I'd avoid the T90.. and it's stronger T15 offspring.

The 3spds, IME, just don't hold up well to abuse. :D

Are there adapters to mate a 383 to a T90 or T19 4spd?

The 727 would seem to be the easiest approach - parts for the swap are available at your nearest Dodge dealer..

I don't plan on doin' anything too crazy with it...:D
When I got it the T90 was on it, and I'm assuming
someone had a conversion shaft made, cuz the new
T90 I got wouldn't hook up. The input shaft on the
new tranny is about 3 inches too short, and 1/4 inch
too small in diameter.
I've heard a lot of good things about the 383, and
it runs really well, sounds good and they did a decent
job of putting it in, so I think I'll just leave it.
I think I'll probably go with the 727. I like sticks and
all, but I might get into some spots where a stick might
not be advantageous. :D
Thanks for all your help guys!

No one could choose your preference, but hey ~ as long as you asked...

I'm an auto guy. I prefer using a TF727 with the lower RV gears and the full valve body (both of which I can supply if you can't find any). The lower gear set gives a 2.72 first gear (or 5.44 w/ TC) and the full valve body allows for at least 90% compression breaking (so it acts like a manual if you lock it into 1 or 2).

You get *all* the controll of a stick, without the extra pedal.

What do you think it would cost to hook
me up with a 727?
Thanks,
