: Cheap rear disk brakes - check it out..
rotozuk 09-08-2003, 06:26 PM Figured most of you probably missed this one:
300ZX calipers (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=174851)
The funny Zuk tech you can find in the Jeep section.. :rasta:
-Wayne
p.s. I orginally found it in the General section. )
Are the studs long enough on a Samurai?
Will the rubber hose attatch to the hardline without an adapter?
Joe_W 09-08-2003, 07:02 PM Ummm...am I missing something or am I correct in saying the studs are on the brake drum of the Sami..wo where are the studs coming from?
jones 09-08-2003, 07:46 PM He's not using the Zuke brake drum. The studs are on the jeep axle.:D
rotozuk 09-08-2003, 09:54 PM Get creative folks.. You can trim your old drum for the studs if you need too.
I'm going to play around with this idea some for my toy axle. I'm sick of messing with the drum based e-brake on my toy axle.
Yeah.. 6 bolt hubs.. You get the idea.
Mike@Accurate 09-08-2003, 10:32 PM I think you have to turn down the axle flanges a bit, to fit inside the Zuk rotors. (6 5/8" OD fits in) On my brothers 44, the axle has a boss on the end that locates rotor on the 4 1/4" id. hole, others don't, the load would ride on the studs. The calipers look alot like the Subaru's (17-494 & 17-495 ((Cardone?)) , I wonder if there is a piston size advantage? I cut down Zuk drums (for a Zuk axle) to get flanges. I'd like to find studs with longer shoulders/serrations because, the rotors will now be on them (instead of wheels) and there is no center location. It would be cool to lock them together with the studs. Anybody know a number?
The same game works with Lincoln Towncar rotors if you want ventilated discs. You get into the GM midsize calipers and the old "Cadillac" caliper thing though. I have them on my Bronco, no e-brake, line-lok. I did the Sube thing on my Zuk buggie's rear and when my brother finishes the Zuk rotor/D44 set-up, we'll look at the Z cals for sure. Enjoy, MIKE
WindRider 09-09-2003, 09:00 AM Has anyone investgated using RX-7 rear calipers with a sammi disk? I drive both and always wondered if this would fit. The RX-7 rears have the parking brake built in and just eyeballing it the disks are about the same thickness. (Note to self: get out the calipers and measure the danged things.)
tippyzuk 03-23-2004, 05:48 PM actually they are the same thickness, i have been looking through our books at work for this...the nominal thickness is .394 on many mazda calipers w/ ebrakes and also the same is for the zuk.
rotozuk 03-23-2004, 06:31 PM Thats handy, now what is the thickness of a toyota un-vented disk? :D

rockzilla 03-23-2004, 07:46 PM how about using the front zuk roter and zuk calipers?? why is no one using that??

E-brakes.

Silly 5 luggers.
It's all about the emergency brake.

jp008 03-23-2004, 10:48 PM Has anyone found out what the measurement of the non-vented Yota rotor is yet. My D44 need discs with e-brake.
Come on Wayne. I thought you of all people would know.

I have one laying out in shed..I'll measure tomorrow

Search the StreetZuki buildup thread....DSI,and Moto, did just that....Zuk front rotors and calipers on a toy axle.....

Come on Wayne. I thought you of all people would know.
diameter = 11 7/8
rotor thickness = 7/16
crown height = 1 3/8
lil beast 03-25-2004, 06:04 AM Hey roto, This is my setup on my toy axle.
Havnt had a chance to try them out but I did drive around the block :D
I used a sami rotor drilled out an extra hole. The caliper is from a swift gt rear with e brake.
Turns out I have to put my build on hold as another rig needs to be done by May 24 longweekend up here.
lil beast 03-25-2004, 06:10 AM I made a template out of 1/4" plexy glass first to get the shape of the bracket (plastic is easier to cut) then fitted the caliper to that. No shims, no washers, no fiddling with the spacing.
Keep in mind this is on a criuser axle and it might be different for a mini truck.
lil beast 03-25-2004, 06:13 AM another shot?
dont want to hijack
:D
UZI 9mm 03-25-2004, 09:29 AM I'm sure Wayne wouldn't look at another cool brake idea with pics, in a thread about cool brake ideas, as any kind of hijack.:D
He's great with sharing his knowledge and ideas, rather than just basking in self aggrandisement.
It's always appreciated. (by me at least, anyway)
awesome job, with the right aging patina, it would look factory after awhile!:D
Thanks!
rotozuk 03-25-2004, 01:35 PM Now I dig that! Thanks for sharing the info.
You said you only had to drill one hole to convert the 5 lug disk to a Toy 6 lug pattern? Got a picture of that? :D I have not looked closely into this as I just assumed it would not work...
-Wayne
lil beast 03-25-2004, 04:57 PM LoL, no I mean an extra as in 6 holes total. I lined up a taco rotor on top and the zuk rotor under it with 1 lug in the axle to get a starting point. After centering both rotors I marked and drilled out the other 5.
More pics
lil beast 03-25-2004, 04:59 PM I used a can of spray paint to get the marks.
UZI 9mm 03-26-2004, 01:06 AM OK this may be a silly question, but..........
if you have Toy axles, and Toy 6 lug discs, and you had to make brackets for the calipers anyway......why did you have to use the sammy rotors?
Was it because the Taco rotors are thicker than the swift calipers can accomodate? (and you only had Swift calipers)
 (nothing new:D)
lil beast 03-26-2004, 05:36 AM The cruiser axles come with vented front rotors, the mini's are solid. I would rather a solid in the rear for a rotor on my axles. The taco rotor just happened to be lying around and the centre does fit over the hub but the offset is way off and it is vented (too big for any solid rotor caliper). The solid toy front has a smaller opening and would have to be machined out but it can be used (soon to be tested). Rather than me going to buy new toy rotors and trying this I used a couple of old zuk ones I had lying around.
The zuk rotor fit nicely over the hub which alligned it for drilling.
Ill be working on a mini axle next with the zuk rotor and I will keep you guys posted on the progress.
I hope this makes a bit of sence.
lil beast 03-26-2004, 07:47 AM I remember now, the toy solid rotor is to thick for the swift gt caliper bracket.
rotozuk 03-26-2004, 10:27 AM Yep, the Toy disks are rather beefy. I was wondering about the offset also.
-Wayne
lil beast 03-26-2004, 02:44 PM Another thing to look out for is that the toy rotor will not fit over the axle itself uless you take a bit off the edge of the axle.
In other words, the inside of the rotor is too small to fit over the outside of the axle.
lil beast 03-26-2004, 02:51 PM The plan on the mini axle is to make a precision cut ring that will take up the slack from the opening of the zuk rotor to the centre hub of the toy axle.
Let Fullload and I work on it for a bit and we will see what we come up with.
Fullload 03-26-2004, 09:44 PM Thanks for the credit there lil beast. Oh yeah thanks for putting your truck on hold to get mine up and running!!!:flipoff2:

Ahhhh. hadn't even thought about the offset being off enough to fubar things.
:D thanks beastly.
Wyld Bill 03-27-2004, 07:21 PM I made cheap rear disks that work good. I used Samurai rotors & calipers. I posted pics on here before. No parking brake though:rolleyes:

Thanks Wyld, but thats what we are looking for is a rear disc with e brake.;)
cj_zuki 03-29-2004, 12:05 AM I've seen a rear disc set up on a Sammy using Sammy front rotors and Nissan Stanza calipers. Gives you an e-brake. I'm looking to do the same for my Kick. Apparently this caliper is just about spot on for size of the master cylinder and proportioning valve on the Kick. Needs little to no adjustment. :)
