I want to do hysteer this winter and get rid of the welded steering arm. What is the opions on the differnces between allpro's steering arm's and tie rod drag link combo in comparison to extreme offroads arms and rods. It seems the allpro's have the drag and the tie road bolt to the same location(one hole) and the extreme bolts the draglink to the hole in the tie rod with balljoints. I would appreciate everyones thoughts.

i am using allpros high steer arms. no complaints. the setup from extreme is probably stonger because you use chevy one ton rod ends instead of fj80. if i did it again i would get the arms from extreme.

I use OTT's arms. Initally I bought the AP arms. I was not all that pleased wiht the finish on the cast arms. The area that the cone washers go was not very round at all. Over all I was dissapointed with their fit and finish. I got a set of the OTT arms and have been truly pleased with them. OTT will drill the arms for whatever taper you want. Personally I am running 5/8th rod ends. Seem to hold up really well... super beefy. And very good quality... I don't know anything about the extreme arms.. Here is apic of my OTT arms.

How do you guys feel about the drag link attatching to a second hole on the right arm? Or to the hole in the tie rod? Like the extreme .Any pros/cons? i definetly want to use the one ton gm balljoint's.

Just took a look a the extreme website. Very cool stuff. The only thing that I do not like about their arms is the fact that they appear to be bent into position. I am fairly sure that it is not an issue but who knows.......
I don't really like the idea of joining the draglink to the tie rod. I feel that it puts a "weak spot" in the tie rod. Again I have never done a comparison betwen the two designs. So mabye I am talking out of my A$$.
Also the OTT arms are like $350 for the set vs $209 a piece. And they will work with you on the placement of the holes. Since I have moved my front axle forward a reasonable amount I needed the rod end mount to be closer to the axle for clearance.
Shoot Chris or Ben an e-mail. I am sure that they would be happy to chat with you cocerning placement of the TRE's and their reasoning behind why they make their arms the way they do.
On the general board they are discussing the OTT arms right now...

Jason,
Do you know OTT's website? Egor's arms are $205 a piece a hook to the tie rod. I could ask them for the hole and taper for the one ton ball joints. $350. and two holes and sounds like they are bad ass. Website or phone would be great. Thanks

They're CNC-machined. Here's a bigger, better pic (http://www.birfield.com/~morgan/tech/high-steer/img_0151.jpg) of the Extreme Gear steering arm on my truck.
If you look at this pic (http://www.birfield.com/~morgan/tech/high-steer/img_0274-md.jpg) from my page, you can see that the passenger-side GM TRE on the relay rod is designed to accept the TRE of the control arm. So whether or not it's a good design or not isn't for me to say, but that's how GM t-ton trucks are set up.
I found this page (http://www.m715zone.com/manuals/Chapter_2_Section_22.html) with pics and text from an old M715 manual, and it shows the other style of steering arm / relay rod attachment.
*shrug* I don't know which is better.

Thanks morgan,
I guess I'm thinking about it to much. but I was wondering about strength with the tie rod and drag link attatched to the arm in seperate holes if it would have less play/or delay in turning then balljoint to tierod mating on the passenger side. Doesn't the balljoint have to rotate before the tierod moves the tires? Did that question make sense?

I run extreme gears steering arms and there perfict.
When the drag link is connected to the tierod the steering is far better than connected to the arm. I've had both and that seems to work the best. I have extremes old arms and there good but I have seen the new ones hes got and there way cool. There milled at an angle for a purpose, so that the balll joints are straight up and down. The early ones like mine werent milled like the new ones, so the ball joints are at a slight angle but work fine.I only paid $100 a piece fore mine but scott doesnt make those anymore. I know Scott at exrteme gear hes the owner realy good guy and does awsome work. Give him a call at (916)990-0419 or www.extremegearoffroad.com

No problem.
I had Scott drill out the arms so I can fit
jeep wagoner ball joints, tierod and draglink. Had to shorten both but they have the strength of 1tons. Steers like a new car. Scott sells brand new tierods and draglinks custom for a good price.
OH YEA :flipoff2:
