: Hobart or Miller 175
Cryslr 12-07-2001, 07:09 AM Central welding is having a sale on Hobart and Miller 175 the both come with carts and have the same warrenty. The Miller is $100 more, but has a variable dail. The Hobart has settings switch, but is basic a Miller. Do I need the variable dail??
IMHO - although the infinite heat settings are nice, the other settings will work just fine.
Go for the Hobart, and spend the $100 on something else you need :D
ranger 12-07-2001, 07:24 AM IMHO- I checked out the Hobart at a local tool store and was'nt too impresssed with the quality of the product. Normally I would have to say Hobart makes a good product, I work on Diesel Hobart Generators for a living, but like I said the construction of the small migs is something to be desired. I would put my money into the Miller! :skull:
RoCkSkuLLz 12-07-2001, 08:32 AM I say Miller over a Ho'bart, Millers kick ars! :D
Old Scout 12-07-2001, 08:47 AM If you ever sell your mig the Miller will still be worth at least a 100.00 more!
WheelingPiazza 12-07-2001, 09:43 AM The big differences are the wire feeders.. and misc other moving parts..
The Hobart uses all plastic feeders and moving parts
The Miller uses aluminum feeders and rollers..
100 bucks worth? sure.. if you can afford it go miller.
MattS 12-07-2001, 12:59 PM I have the Miller 175 and choose it after looking at both. The guy at the welding store told me that he sees less of them come back for repairs and he suggested it over the Hobart. HTH
I have not welded anything thick enough to go past the 2nd heat setting. I tried 3 and burned thru my 1/8 inch spring hanger I was making.
I like the infinite heat settings of the Hobart but the welding shop guy told me the Miller has that also.
Example:
Heat setting 2 wire speed:30 = hot spark
Heat setting 2 wire speed:50 = hotter spark
Heat setting 2 wire speed:80 = hotter yet spark
Here is a quote from the page: http://www.millerwelds.com/main/products/mig/M10561/
"This all-in-one MIG machine has infinite voltage control with wire feed speed tracking for easy operator control."
Hopefully that was not confusing. :)
Glenn 12-07-2001, 01:26 PM Remember, Hobart is made by Miller. We have both and they work equally well... :)
Cryslr 12-07-2001, 01:41 PM Well I went with the Miller 175. The total package out the door with, tank, electric mask, spool of wire, and cart was $900.
Hope I'm Happy.

RHINO 12-07-2001, 03:07 PM Remember, Hobart is made by Miller
and lexus is made by toyota,,,, the hobart is a good unit, but meant to be used by the DIY'er, as in not so often. you would be wise to put your money in the miller if you plan to use it as much as i use my welders.
ErikB 12-07-2001, 03:11 PM Or $635 from www.welders-direct.com.
(Doh! Slow dialup... You beat me to yourself, Glenn. )
mjcj7 12-07-2001, 03:31 PM I bought the Hobart and I love it (even though I can't weld for sh**)
Old Scout 12-07-2001, 03:32 PM Welders direct rocks, but the 210 is on a 6 week backorder! I guess I just have to wait and wait. Free spoolgun is very cool!

cruiserrg 12-07-2001, 08:26 PM Just got my Miller 210 today, great to have the spool gun. Check locally for one. My local welding store had one a guy backed out on and was only $25 more than welders direct!

Tractor Supply has the Hobart 175 for $668, which includes the cart and auto-darkening helmet.......pretty good deal, tell em its farm use and there is no tax.
Josh 89XJ 12-08-2001, 06:02 PM Assuming that you go with the Hobart, keep in mind that should any of the plastic parts wear out they can be replaced with the aluminum ones from the Miller 175.
Jeepmangled87 12-08-2001, 11:07 PM Im a big miller fan you cant beat them with a stick ! but Hobart aint bad either for that price, just as long as they get the job done right?
