Had a physical and got blood test results today:
Total: 266
LDL (bad): 166
Triglyceride: 303
I'm 37 and in fine health - well I thought so anyway :(

Sux don't it. I know at 40 I felt fantastic, excersized regularly
(1 hour, 3 times a week), didn't eat too terribly bad and got
similar results from my blood workup. I started takin'
multi-vitamins daily along with a flax seed oil capsule,
started layin' off the "bad" foods (fried stuff) and continued to
exercize. Five months later my LDL's and Triglycerides were
reduced.
I'm able to enjoy my favorite pizza, just not as often.
Still takin' the vitamins and flax seed oil religiously every night
before bed and my levels have stayed in the norm. Luck to ya.

I have a bad feeling I will be in the same boat - I am going to modify my diet some & go ahead and use whatever they perscribe. May look into that Phytomega stuff too - thanks Ken. Give it a couple of months, then ditch the drugs & hope for the best.

i am 33 yrs old, 5'8" and 150 lbs. just had my physical last month and BAM i was hit with a cholesterol of 279:eek: i am in above average shape, but my diet sucks (but it tastes good). now i have to change my diet and get this down asap or it could be 6' under. going back to the doc in OCT for a re-test and if the diet hasn't helped i will go on the drugs :smokin:.

I've been on Tricor for 2.5 years now and my cholesterol last month was 239. HDL/LDL levels were much better than in the past though, so the Doc was pleased overall.
I had to cut out most beef and cheese (I love cheese) and adjust a few other eating/exercise habits along with taking the meds.
But I come from a line of high-cholesterol family members so it will never be very low. As long as my HDL/LDL stay where they belong, I'm not as worried about the overall number.
Not a damn thing I can do about it anyway other than what I'm already doing.

169 and I like my high-fat foods. I imagine it'll go up by my late-30s.
Good luck on that, easy to fix w/o pills.

I hear you. Mine was around 180 for years. About 3 months ago
I got checked and it was 290. I promised the Dr. I'd stop
eating a pint of icecream every night and come back in to get another
check. I'm due for the check up in a couple of weeks.

Eat lots of oatmeal or Cheerios. Oats help lower your cholesterol. That's where mine was when we had a free screening at work. The woman who gave me the results said she was surprised I was still alive.

I must be one of the lucky few... Last year my level 160. This year I went down to 140! Doc was really surprised. Asked me what I did to control it, and I said nothing! I don't eat eggs, or cheese; but I pretty much eat everything else (meat, sugary cereals, junk food binges, with a few good sensible meals now and then).
Doc shrugged his shoulders, he said it must be hereditary that I don't problems with cholesterol levels. My folks are in the same range as I.
Only bad thing about my health is that I do have high blood pressure and require meds to keep it in check. I could stand to loose a few pounds (ok, at least 20 lbs). I know that will help with the blood pressure problem.... just hard to give up the junk food :(
